Poturalski was summoned from AHL Coachella Valley on Monday, according to Sound of Hockey.
Poturalski could be a potential replacement for Brandon Tanev (lower body), who didn't practice Saturday after leaving Friday's 5-1 loss to Vancouver. Oliver Bjorkstrand (undisclosed) was also unable to finish Friday's contest. Poturalski has not played in the NHL since the 2021-22 campaign, when he had two assists and four shots on goal with the Hurricanes over two games.

Poturalski had two PIM and four shots on goal in his first game action in three months. The 29-year-old was initially expected to miss 4-to-6 months after undergoing surgery in February, but he was able to return early and will look to contribute during the Firebirds' AHL playoff run.

Poturalski recorded an assist in each game he was up with the Hurricanes on Thursday (vs. Detroit) and Saturday (vs. Los Angeles). It's not surprising that he hit the scoresheet at the top level considering the 27-year-old is the current AHL scoring leader with 34 points in 23 games.

Poturalski picked up a power-play assist in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Red Wings.
Playing in only his third career NHL game and first since 2016-17, the 27-year-old recorded his first career point on the night's opening tally, as his blast from the top of the faceoff circle got stopped by Alex Nedeljkovic only for Nino Niederreiter to bang home the rebound. Poturalski was an emergency call-up due to a wave of absences in Carolina's forward ranks due to COVID-19, but he was leading the team's AHL affiliate in scoring at the time of his promotion. If he sees consistent power-play time, he could have some short-term fantasy value despite his skimpy resume at the top level.

The 27-year-old has recorded 22 assists and 12 goals through 23 AHL contests this season. He will be poised to bounce back up to the NHL if his excellent production continues in the minors.

Poturalski pauses his AHL campaign with the Wolves as the points leader of that minor-league squad by a wide margin. He's dialed in 12 goals -- including six on the power play -- and 22 assists through 23 games. While he's a fine depth option for the parent club, Poturalski is 27 years old and he's long since exhausted his NHL prospect status. A native of New York, Poturalski made his debut with the Hurricanes in 2016-17, but he hasn't appeared in a top-level game since then. Still, he might be needed Thursday since several Hurricanes forwards are either injured or in COVID-19 protocol.

Poturalski is coming off a phenomenal 2020-21 season in the minors, as he racked up 43 points in 44 games for AHL San Diego. The 27-year-old center's only NHL experience came back in 2016-17 during a previous stint with Carolina. If he can bring that scoring touch with him to the NHL, the New York native should be capable of breaking into the Canes' lineup this season.

Poturalski has just two games of NHL experience under his belt which he logged back in 2016-17 with the Hurricanes. He's been moderately successful for AHL San Diego, where he had seven points in 17 contests before losing time to injuries last year. The undrafted forward is a long shot to see any NHL time in 2020-21.
