  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Set to miss some time

Grzelcyk (upper body) will not be available for the Blackhawks' upcoming four-game road trip, and his status beyond that has yet to be determined, according to Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times on Sunday. Grzelcyk sustained his upper-body injury during the first period of Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to Nashville. The 32-year-old blueliner has played in all but one of the Blackhawks' games this season, but he'll now miss at least the next four, with the potential for a longer absence. Ethan Del Mastro will most likely get back into the lineup Tuesday against the Islanders.

  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Won't return Sunday

Grzelcyk (upper body) left Sunday's game against the Predators in the first period and won't return, the team announced. Grzelcyk got caught up high in a scrum after the whistle in the opening period and has been ruled out for the rest of the game. The 32-year-old has no goals and 12 assists in 68 games in his first season in a Blackhawks sweater. It remains to be seen if he will be forced to miss any more time. Chicago is next in action Tuesday on the road against the Islanders.

  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Quiet on offense

Grzelcyk's point drought reached eight games in Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth. Grzelcyk has just one assist over his last 20 outings. The 32-year-old blueliner is still maintaining a third-pairing role, but he could lose that spot to Ethan Del Mastro if the Blackhawks fully embrace playing their prospects. For the season, Grzelcyk has 12 helpers, 64 shots on net, 51 blocked shots, 26 hits, 28 PIM and a minus-8 rating over 64 appearances.

  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Pair of assists in Wednesday's win

Grzelcyk notched two assists and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Blues. Grzelcyk has chipped in with six assists and a minus-2 rating over his last 14 appearances. The 32-year-old defenseman's effort Wednesday was his first multi-point effort of the campaign. He's now at 10 assists, 49 shots on net, 21 hits, 33 blocked shots, 18 PIM and a plus-3 rating through 43 appearances. Grzelcyk is seeing time on the second power-play unit but still has a fairly limited role at even strength.

  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Snaps slump with helper

Grzelcyk registered an assist and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Rangers. Grzelcyk had gone 13 games without a point entering Wednesday. The 31-year-old defenseman has largely disappointed to begin his Chicago tenure, earning a mere five assists in 30 contests just one year after his 40-point effort in 82 games for the Penguins. However, Grzelcyk could claim some extra time on the second power-play unit while Sam Rinzel is with AHL Rockford.

  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Quiet on offense

Grzelcyk's point drought reached 10 games in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Golden Knights. Grzelcyk was involved in a goal, but it was a Vegas tally that bounced in off his body. The 31-year-old defenseman has been a steady part of the Blackhawks' lineup, which has often included seven blueliners, but he's been on the third pairing with inconsistent power-play usage. That hasn't been a recipe for success, as he's now at four assists, a plus-9 rating, 31 shots on net, 22 blocked shots, 12 hits and 12 PIM through 26 outings overall.

  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Snags helper in win

Grzelcyk registered an assist and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Blues. Grzelcyk got on the scoresheet for the first time as a Blackhawk when he set up a Lukas Reichel goal in the first period. The 31-year-old Grzelcyk has filled a bottom-four role with some power-play time, and his ice time has been trimmed further by the Blackhawks' decision to dress seven blueliners often in the early going. He's added six blocked shots, five shots on net and a plus-4 rating, so he should continue to be an effective veteran role player this year. However, he'll likely be a few levels below the performance that saw him earn 40 points in 82 games with the Penguins last campaign.

  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Earns one-year deal

Grzelcyk signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Chicago on Sunday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports. Grzelcyk attended training camp with the Blackhawks on a professional tryout agreement and earned a standard contract before the start of the 2025-26 campaign. The 31-year-old blueliner supplied one goal, 39 assists, 94 shots on net and 101 blocked shots across 82 regular-season games with Pittsburgh in 2024-25. Grzelcyk will likely have a depth role with the Blackhawks this campaign, which could result in a decrease in his offensive numbers.

  • Blackhawks' Matt Grzelcyk: Lands PTO with Hawks

Grzelcyk is set to join the Blackhawks at training camp on a professional tryout agreement, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Tuesday. Grzelcyk racked up 40 points in 82 regular-season games with the Penguins last season, a career high number that included another personal best in 15 power-play assists. As such, it's a little surprising to see the 31-year-old blueliner having to go the PTO route ahead of 2025-26. Given his offensive numbers last year, it's hard to envision a scenario in which Grzelcyk doesn't land an NHL deal prior to Opening Night, whether in Chicago or elsewhere.

  • Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Picks up pair of assists

Grzelcyk notched two assists, two hits, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Capitals. Grzelcyk had four assists over the last three contests. The 31-year-old defenseman was quite successful on offense in his first year with the Penguins, earning a career-high 40 points (one goal, 39 assists) while playing in all 82 games for the first time. He added 94 shots on net, 101 blocked shots, 43 hits and a minus-6 rating. Grzelcyk played on a one-year contract this season, and his career year should generate quite a market if he gets to free agency.

Grzelcyk notched two power-play assists, two blocked shots and two PIM in Friday's 4-2 win over the Devils. Grzelcyk had gone three games without a point, but he has seven assists over his last 10 outings. Four of those helpers have come on the power play as he continues to contribute more than expected in that situation. For the season, the blueliner is at one goal, 37 assists, 15 power-play points, 92 shots on net, 97 blocked shots, 40 hits and a minus-7 rating over 80 appearances.

Grzeclyk recorded a power-play assist, two shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Blues. Grzelcyk has been fantastic with five helpers over his last six games. The 31-year-old defenseman is up to 36 points on the year, 10 better than any season in his career, thanks in part to playing in a career-best 76 games. He's produced 13 of his 35 helpers with the man advantage while adding 83 shots on net, 93 blocked shots, 37 hits and a minus-10 rating in his first year with the Penguins.

Grzelcyk notched an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jackets. Grzelcyk was the only Pittsburgh defenseman to get on the scoresheet Friday. He kept the puck in and fed Sidney Crosby for a goal at 15:31 of the second period, which stretched the Penguins' lead to 5-2. Grzelcyk has three assists over 10 outings in March, and he's logged a career-best total of 32 points with 77 shots on net, 88 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating over 71 appearances this season.

Grzelcyk notched a power-play assist, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Wild. Grzelcyk has three helpers over his last six outings, though this was his first power-play point since Jan. 17 versus the Sabres. The 31-year-old has carved out a role on the second power-play unit to help boost his offense in a career year. He's earned career highs in assists (30) and points (31) while adding 77 shots on net, 79 blocked shots and a minus-10 rating through 66 appearances.

  • Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Playing against Flyers

Grzelcyk (upper body) will suit up versus Philadelphia on Tuesday, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports Grzelcyk will avoid missing any time after being injured against the Rangers on Sunday. The 31-year-old blueliner is currently stuck in a 26-game goal drought during which he has generated just 25 shots. Still, Grzelcyk did chip in 12 helpers over that stretch, including three with the man advantage, and will pair back up with Erik Karlsson.

  • Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Suffers injury Sunday

Grzelcyk (upper body) won't return to Sunday's game against the Rangers. Grzelcyk sustained the injury on a Matt Rempe hit in the first period. Rempe received a two-minute penalty for interference on the play. Grzelcyk entered Sunday's action with one goal, 27 assists, 70 shots on net and 72 blocked shots across 58 appearances this season.

  • Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Adds assist Saturday

Grzelcyk notched an assist in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Flyers. Grzelcyk has six assists over his last 11 outings. The 31-year-old blueliner continues to enjoy a career year, racking up 28 points, 69 shots on net, 71 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating over 57 appearances. He should maintain a top-four role the rest of the way, though he's on a one-year contract and could end up with a smaller role if he's dealt to a contender.

  • Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: New career high in points

Grzelcyk notched an assist in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win over Utah. Grzelcyk continues to produce on offense -- he has five helpers over his last seven contests. He helped out on a Marcus Pettersson tally in the second period of this game. Grzelcyk is up to a career-high 27 points while adding 63 shots on net, 70 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating through 53 appearances this season. It wouldn't be surprising for the 31-year-old to end up around the 40-point mark if he sustains his current pace.

  • Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Lends helper in loss

Grzelcyk notched an assist and two shots on goal in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Sharks. Grzelcyk continues to chip in on offense with four helpers over his last six games. He also has eight shots on net and three blocked shots in that span. The 31-year-old has held down a top-four role for much of the season, and he's matched his career high with 26 points through just 52 contests. Grzelcyk has added 63 shots on net, 69 blocked shots and a minus-15 rating, and he has a career-best 10 power-play points.

  • Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Contributes two power-play assists

Grzelcyk notched two power-play assists and three blocked shots in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres. Grzelcyk had been held off the scoresheet in his previous four games. That cold spell followed a stretch in which he racked up 10 points over 12 outings. The 31-year-old blueliner is up to one goal, 23 helpers, 10 power-play points, 55 shots on net, 64 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating through 47 appearances. As long as he continues to be involved on the power play, he should have decent fantasy value. He's three points away from setting a new career high.
