Flames' Kevin Rooney: Fills empty cage
Rooney scored an empty-net goal on two shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kings.
Rooney earned his first point of the season with the empty-netter to help the Flames fend off the Kings at the end of the game. This was the center's first point in eight appearances this season. He missed time with a concussion in October but appears to be the Flames' preferred option as the fourth-line center. In addition to his goal, he has three shots on net, 11 hits, four blocked shots and four PIM.

Flames' Kevin Rooney: Poised to play Thursday
Rooney (concussion) is expected back in the lineup versus Carolina on Thursday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Rooney missed the Flames' previous five games following a concussion suffered in the season opener against Vancouver on Oct. 9. With the veteran forward retaking his spot on the fourth line, Adam Klapka will find himself back in the press box after suiting up in the prior two matchups. For his part, Rooney has never reached the 15-point threshold in his seven full NHL seasons, so fantasy players shouldn't be banking on him for offensive contributions.

Flames' Kevin Rooney: Finds assist in loss
Rooney notched an assist, three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Canucks.
Rooney helped out on a Rasmus Andersson tally in the second period. Since joining the Flames after the All-Star break, Rooney has seen consistent playing time as the fourth-line center. He's starting to come around on offense with a goal and an assist over his last two games, but it's unlikely to lead to a sustained scoring surge. The center is at three points, 18 shots on net, 38 hits, 19 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating through 20 appearances this season.

Flames' Kevin Rooney: Deposits goal in loss
Rooney scored a goal on two shots and added two hits in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Capitals.
Rooney snapped a 16-game point drought with his second-period tally. The 30-year-old has had limited chances to produce offense while playing on the Flames' fourth line. He's posted two goals, 15 shots on net, 37 hits, 18 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating over 19 appearances, numbers not good enough to justify a roster spot in nearly all fantasy formats.

Flames' Kevin Rooney: Inks one-year extension
Rooney signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract extension with the Flames on Friday.
Rooney has only played in 13 games with the big club this year, recording one goal and 23 hits. The 30-year-old forward should, however, see regular usage as a member of Calgary's fourth line down the stretch.

Flames' Kevin Rooney: Nets goal in second game of season
Rooney scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Devils.
This was Rooney's second game of the campaign at the NHL level. He's added three shots on net, two hits and a plus-1 rating while centering the fourth line. Rooney should stick in that spot for the remainder of the campaign after the Flames dealt Elias Lindholm to the Canucks and lost Adam Ruzicka on waivers to the Coyotes. Rooney probably won't score enough for fantasy, but his place in the lineup is unlikely to be challenged.

Rooney produced an assist and logged six hits in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Oilers.
Rooney set up a Michael Stone howitzer for the Flames' second goal at 4:34 of the first period. The assist was Rooney's first point with Calgary after signing a two-year contract in July. The 29-year-old has added a plus-2 rating, eight hits and a shot on goal in two contests while serving as the fourth-line center. His heavy play and defensive work won't translate well to fantasy, but he'll likely be a fixture in the lineup.
