Steeves scored two goals on his only two shots and added three hits in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Red Wings.
The 25-year-old winger is getting a look on Boston's top line while David Pastrnak (undisclosed) is unavailable, and Steeves is taking full advantage. Tuesday's performance was the second time in the last four games that he's lit the lamp twice. Steeves has five goals in 12 games as a Bruin while racking up 42 hits. He's shown plenty of scoring acumen in the AHL, including 36 goals in 59 regular-season games for AHL Toronto in 2024-25. Steeves might be making a case to stick around in a middle-six role once Pastrnak returns.

Steeves penned a one-year, $850,000 deal with Boston on Tuesday, Kevin McGran of The Toronto Star reports.

Steeves contributed a goal and an assist in three games after being brought up from the minors Feb. 18. The 25-year-old will link back up with the Marlies. Steeves' promotion would seem to indicate that there is an injury, or at least a game-time decision, for a member of the Leafs' forward group. According to David Alter of The Hockey News, both Max Domi and William Nylander took maintenance days Monday, which isn't normally a significant concern, but it would appear perhaps there is more than meets the eye here. If Steeves does suit up versus Ottawa on Tuesday, it will likely be in a bottom-six role, though the team is already without Auston Matthews (upper body) and Max Pacioretty (lower body), so a second-line spot could open up for Steeves.

Steeves has been out a week with the injury. Steeves scored the lone goal in a 2-1 preseason loss versus Ottawa on Sept. 24 and has not played since then.
