Sabres' Craig Anderson: Confirms retirement
Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports Anderson confirmed his retirement following Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Senators, during which he stopped 30 of 33 shots.
Anderson will close out his lengthy NHL career with a 319-275-2-71 record. He began with the Blackhawks in the 2002-03 season after he was drafted in the third round in 2001. He also saw time with the Panthers, Avalanche, Senators and Capitals before closing out his career with the Sabres over the last two campaigns. Anderson never captured the Stanley Cup, but his dedication to the game was rewarded with the Masterton Trophy in 2017 after he left the Senators to support his wife Nicholle in her battle with throat cancer.

Sabres' Craig Anderson: Returning to action Thursday

The 41-year-old netminder continues to see semi-consistent action as Buffalo splits the workload in the crease between three goalies, starting three of the last eight games and getting called upon in relief of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in a fourth, and Anderson's 2.77 GAA and .918 save percentage on the season are far superior to Luukkonen's 3.57 GAA and .892 SvP or Eric Comrie's 3.59 GAA and .882 SvP.

Anderson made 53 saves in Friday's 3-1 win over the Panthers.
The Sabres were out-shot 54-35 on a night that really should have seen a much higher score were it not for the efforts of the two guys in the crease. Anderson took a shutout into the third period before Carter Verhaeghe finally got a puck past him, but the 41-year-old netminder still picked up his first win since Jan. 23 while tying his career high in saves -- a mark he established back in 2008 when he was a member of the Panthers. The 53 saves also set a new Sabres franchise record for stops in a win and is the third-highest single-game total in club history, while Anderson became the first goalie in his 40s in NHL history to rack up 50 or more saves in a night.
