  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Lights lamp twice in Philly

Makar scored two goals, one on the power play, in Monday's 3-2 win over the Flyers. The superstar blueliner potted the first two tallies of the night in the second period. Makar has failed to get onto the scoresheet only three times in 19 contests to begin the season, racking up eight goals and 27 points in the process -- including three goals and 13 points with the man advantage. The one blemish on his line so far is a minus-5 rating, an uncharacteristic performance for a player who has never finished with worse than a plus-12 mark in his career.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Registers assist in win

Makar notched an assist and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Kings. Makar set up a game-tying goal by Mikko Rantanen in the second period. The helper was Makar's second point over the last four games -- he's slowed down a little since his 13-game season-opening point streak ended. The star defenseman still has a fantastic 25 points, 47 shots on net, 23 blocked shots, 14 hits and a minus-5 rating through 17 appearances.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Finds twine shorthanded

Makar scored a shorthanded goal on four shots and went plus-2 in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Hurricanes. Makar was able to avoid missing time when he suited up Thursday after being a game-time decision following an undisclosed injury Tuesday versus the Kraken. The defenseman's 13-game point streak to open the year snapped in a 1-0 loss to the Jets on Thursday, but he was right back on the scoresheet Saturday with his first shorthanded point of the season. The defenseman has six goals, 24 points, 44 shots on net, 21 blocked shots, 14 hits and a minus-6 rating over 15 appearances. He's earned 12 of his points on the power play and continues to be dynamic in all situations while also leading all NHL blueliners in points -- Josh Morrissey (16) is a distant second.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Good to play Thursday

Makar (undisclosed) will play in Thursday's tilt against Winnipeg. Makar was a game-time decision after exiting Tuesday's 6-3 win over Seattle due to the injury. He registered two assists before leaving that match, and he didn't end up missing a full game, so he'll enter Thursday's action with a chance to extend his season-opening 13-game scoring streak. He has five goals and 23 points in 2024-25.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Game-time decision Thursday

Coach Jared Bednar said Makar (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision in Winnipeg on Thursday, Marc Moser of Altitude Sports reports. Makar participated in the morning skate and played on the top power play, so that is encouraging. If Makar is unable to play, the Avalanche's next game is at home versus Carolina on Saturday. Makar is off to an amazing start with five goals and 23 points in only 13 games.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Doing fine, might play Thursday

Makar (undisclosed) is feeling okay and might be able to play Thursday versus Winnipeg, according to Corey Masisak of The Denver Post on Wednesday. That has to come as a huge relief for the Avalanche, who haven't otherwise gotten much in the way of encouraging news on the injury front this season. Makar is a vital part of the Avalanche's blue line, and he's been one of the league's top players, providing five goals and 23 points through 13 outings in 2042-25. He registered two assists before exiting Tuesday's game due to the injury, so his season-opening point streak is still intact.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Tweaks something in Tuesday's game

Makar (undisclosed) tweaked something during the second period of Tuesday's game versus the Kraken, Corey Masisak of The Denver Post reports. Head coach Jared Bednar did not have an update on Makar's status after the game. The defenseman left originally in the second period, then took one shift in the third before ultimately exiting the contest. His potential absence looms large for the Avalanche -- Makar has yet to be held off the scoresheet with five goals and 18 helpers through 13 contests this season after posting two assists prior to his exit Tuesday. If he can't play Thursday in Winnipeg, Oliver Kylington or John Ludvig would draw into the lineup.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Takes point streak up to 12 games

Makar scored a power-play goal on three shots, added an assist and blocked three shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Predators. Makar opened the scoring at 2:54 of the second period and helped out on Nathan MacKinnon's tally in the third. This was Makar's second multi-point effort in a row and his seventh in 12 contests this season. The superstar defenseman still hasn't been held off the scoresheet, compiling five goals, 16 helpers, 35 shots on net, 17 blocked shots, 11 hits and a minus-8 rating. He's earned 10 of his 21 points on the power play, with both of those figures good for a share of the league lead in each category.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Not slowing down

Makar notched an even-strength goal and a power-play assist in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning. The Avs have endured a rocky start to the season, but Makar has been a standout performer while emerging as the most productive defenseman in the NHL -- and it's not even close. He's recorded a point in each of his 11 appearances while posting six multi-point efforts in that span, translating to four goals and a league-leading 15 assists. His 19 points are tied for first league-wide along with Mark Stone.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Keeps point streak alive Monday

Makar delivered a power-play assist in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Blackhawks. Makar and Nathan MacKinnon have been the most productive duo in the league over the first weeks of the regular season, and both players are currently riding 10-game point streaks. Makar extended his by setting up McKinnon's power-play goal in the final seconds of the second period, but the Avalanche couldn't spark the comeback in the final frame. Makar has thrived as a playmaker despite his role as a blueliner and is up to 14 assists, as well as three goals, in his 10 outings this season.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Point streak up to nine games

Makar notched an assist and blocked two shots in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Senators. Makar kept his point streak alive with a helper on Ross Colton's goal with 4:59 left in the third period. The 25-year-old Makar has found the scoresheet in all nine games, racking up a total of three goals, 13 assists, 22 shots on net, 14 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating. The superstar blueliner is playing at a level that's above even his impressive skills, and he should have no trouble finishing above a point-per-game pace in 2024-25 even if he regresses a bit.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Keeps rolling with goal

Makar scored a goal on six shots and blocked two shots in Thursday's 5-1 win over Utah. Makar extended his point streak to eight games, though he was limited to a single point for the third time this season. The 25-year-old's tally late in the first period held up as the game-winner. Makar has three goals, 15 points, 21 shots on net, 12 blocked shots, seven hits and a minus-2 rating. With the Avalanche turning things around after a slow start, the superstar blueliner should have no trouble staying consistent throughout the campaign.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Three-point burst in Sunday's win

Makar scored an empty-net goal on two shots, added two assists and went plus-2 in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Sharks. Makar helped out on both of Ross Colton's tallies, including one on the power play, in the first period. In the third, Makar added an empty-netter to finish off the win. The defenseman has opened the season on a six-game point streak, racking up two goals, 10 assists, 12 shots on net, seven hits, seven blocked shots and a minus-4 rating. He's earned multiple points in four of his games and remains among the best blueliners in the league even with the Avalanche off to a lackluster start in 2024-25.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Racks up three points Wednesday

Makar scored a goal on two shots, added two assists and went minus-2 in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Bruins. All three of Makar's points came on the power play in his best game of the young season. Still, he's had defensive struggles, which have been thrust into the spotlight with goaltender Alexandar Georgiev off to a horrid start. Makar has a goal, seven assists, six shots on net, four hits and a minus-6 rating through four appearances.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Provides helper Monday

Makar notched an assist in Monday's 6-2 loss to the Islanders. He also registered two shots, one hit, one blocked shot and a minus-3 rating. One of the best offensive blueliners in the game, Makar has contributed directly to five of Colorado's 10 goals thus far, though that shouldn't be surprising since he's coming off a 2023-24 campaign in which he recorded a career-high 90 points, including 69 assists. Even though he's yet to find the back of the net this season, Makar remains an important player in the Avalanche's offensive scheme, and he should remain a threat from the blue line when Colorado aims to secure its first win of the season Wendesday against Boston.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Dishes two assists in loss

Makar notched two assists in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Blue Jackets. Makar helped out on the Avalanche's last two goals as they tried to make a comeback effort. The defenseman has assisted on half of Colorado's eight tallies through two contests this season, including two power-play helpers. He's added two shots on net, two hits and one blocked shot. As long as his offense is steady, fantasy managers can tolerate whatever level of non-scoring production Makar manages.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Pair of helpers in loss

Makar provided two assists in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Golden Knights. Makar saw 26:15 of ice time in Wednesday's loss, by far the most of any skater in the contest. The right-shot blueliner is coming off a career-high 90 points last season, and that number should be within reach again this year playing alongside superstars such as Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. Makar's ceiling is sky high, and the 25-year-old, health permitting, will be in the conversation to win the Norris Trophy in 2024-25.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Garners power-play helper

Makar logged a power-play assist, two shots on goal and three blocked shots in Friday's 2-1 double-overtime loss to the Stars in Game 6. Makar finished the postseason with five goals, 10 assists, 36 shots on net and 23 blocks over 11 contests. The 25-year-old defenseman also had a career-high 90 points in 77 regular-season outings. Makar's brilliance on the blue line remains elite, and he's a finalist for the Norris Trophy once again after a stellar campaign. Makar should continue to be a top-three fantasy defenseman in 2024-25 with an Avalanche team that will have its core intact despite going into the offseason with nine pending unrestricted free agents among the team's skaters.
