  • Sabres' Beck Malenstyn: Posts helper Thursday

Malenstyn notched an assist, two blocked shots and two PIM in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Rangers. Malenstyn ended a five-game slump with the helper. The 26-year-old has played on the fourth line throughout 2024-25, picking up three points, 13 shots on net, 13 blocked shots, 36 hits and eight PIM over 14 contests. His place in the lineup looks fairly secure, but Malenstyn's biggest contributions will come in hits rather than points, so he's only an option in deep fantasy formats.

  • Sabres' Beck Malenstyn: Pots goal in win

Malenstyn scored a goal on two shots, added two PIM and logged three hits in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Blackhawks. Malenstyn scored from in close at 11:31 of the first period to earn his first point as a Sabre. The 26-year-old forward signed a two-year deal in July with the Sabres after he was traded from the Capitals at the draft in June. He brings some grit to a fourth-line role, but he'll be hard-pressed to match the 21-point campaign he produced over 81 regular-season games in 2023-24. This year, he's picked up 22 hits, seven blocked shots, four PIM and six shots on net across seven outings.

  • Sabres' Beck Malenstyn: Secures two-year pact

Malenstyn and the Sabres agreed to terms on a two-year, $2.7 million contract Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Malenstyn was brought in via trade by Buffalo from Washington before the 2024 NHL Draft but needed to agree to new terms as a restricted free agent. Last season, the 26-year-old natural center saw action in 81 games for the Caps in which he generated six goals and 15 assists, all career bests. He figures to slot into a bottom-six role for the Sabres this year and likely has a ceiling in the 25-30-point range.

  • Sabres' Beck Malenstyn: Shuffles off to Buffalo

Buffalo acquired Malenstyn from Washington on Saturday in exchange for the No. 43 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Malenstyn played his first full season in the NHL in 2023-24, scoring six times while adding 15 assists and 241 hits in 81 regular-season games. The 26-year-old should see bottom-six time with the Sabres in 2024-25.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Expected to play

Malenstyn (upper body) is expected to play Tuesday versus the Flyers, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports. Malenstyn is set to play on the fourth line after leaving Monday's game versus the Bruins. The 26-year-old is a key part of the Capitals' depth as a physical presence, and it's all hands on deck for a win-and-in situation for Washington.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Exits Monday's contest

Malenstyn (upper body) will not return to Monday's game against Boston. Malenstyn put two shots on goal while logging 8:44 of ice time before exiting Monday's game. The 26-year-old has 21 points and 98 shots through 80 games. The team should have an update on his status before Tuesday's regular-season finale in Philadelphia.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Likely to play

Malenstyn (illness) is expected to be available to play Sunday versus Arizona, per Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post. Malenstyn should occupy his regular bottom-six spot in the lineup despite missing Saturday's practice, barring any pregame setbacks. He has accounted for six goals, 16 points, 73 shots on net, 67 blocked shots and 167 hits over 58 appearances this season.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Questionable for Sunday

Malenstyn (illness) is uncertain to play Sunday against the Coyotes, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports. Malenstyn faces a short turnaround to be ready for Sunday's matinee contest against the Coyotes after he missed practice Saturday. If he is unable to go, Pierrick Dube or Ivan Miroshnichenko could draw into the lineup.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Two points vs. Ottawa

Malenstyn tallied a goal and an assist in Monday's 6-3 win over the Senators. Malenstyn extended Washington's lead to 4-2 late in the opening period, beating Anton Forsberg with a net-front wrister, before adding an assist on a Hendrix Lapierre tally in the second. It's just the second multi-point effort of the year for Malenstyn, who came into Monday with one goal and three points in his prior 11 contests. Overall, the 26-year-old forward is up to six goals and 16 points through 56 games while working primarily on the Caps' fourth line.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Tallies helper Thursday

Malenstyn recorded an assist, four shots and three hits during Thursday's 5-2 win over the Lightning. Malenstyn's tenacious forechecking helped catalyze Nicolas Aube-Kubel's first-period goal and the 26-year-old forward now has three points in his last six games. Malenstyn has become a solid fourth-line player for the Capitals with five goals and 14 points in 54 games in his first full NHL season, but the 145th overall pick from the 2016 NHL Entry Draft will need to secure a larger offensive role to generate fantasy consideration in standard leagues.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Finds twine Saturday

Malenstyn scored a goal on three shots and blocked two shots in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators. Malenstyn got the Capitals on the board midway through the first period after they fell in an early 2-0 hole. The goal snapped his eight-game point drought. The 25-year-old forward has remained in a fourth-line role for much of the season, but his ice time has been more in line with a middle-six forward. He's produced three goals, four helpers, 38 shots on net, 79 hits, 43 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 34 appearances.

Malenstyn cracked the Opening Night roster and he's been up with the Capitals ever since, serving in in a fourth-line capacity and averaging 11:18 of ice time. The tally Friday marked his first point of the season, but Malenstyn has mixed it up a bit with 15 blocked shots and 26 hits.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Resumes skating

Malenstyn (finger) was on the ice prior to Thursday's morning skate, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports. Malenstyn has been out since sustaining the injury in a Nov.1 loss to the Golden Knights, but his return to the ice is a step in the right direction. The Capitals will take any good news concerning the lengthy list of injured players on the roster, but Malenstyn's return isn't likely to make any difference in fantasy circles.

  • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Nets first goal

Malenstyn scored a goal and added three hits in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Predators. Malenstyn broke a deadlock in the second, converting on a setup from Nic Dowd. This was Malenstyn's first goal and second point through three contests this season as he continues to fill in on the fourth line. The 24-year-old forward has added 11 hits, four shots on net, two PIM and a plus-2 rating. With T.J. Oshie (lower body) leaving Saturday's contest early, Malenstyn may have some more job security should Oshie miss additional time.

Malenstyn was recalled from AHL Hershey on Wednesday. Malenstyn provides some additional depth for Thursday's game against Ottawa given that Evgeny Kuznetsov (suspension) will be ineligible to play and Connor Brown (lower body) isn't certain to be available. • Capitals' Beck Malenstyn: Summoned to Captials

Malenstyn was promoted from AHL Hershey to the Capitals on Tuesday, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports. With Nicklas Backstrom (hip) now on the long-term injured list, Washington has sufficient cap space to recall Malenstyn to the NHL. The 23-year-old has not played an NHL game in almost two years after missing all of last season with an Achilles injury. The 145th overall pick from the 2016 NHL Entry Draft should be a useful role player for the Capitals but has negligible fantasy value until he can secure regular ice time.
