Senators' Carter Yakemchuk: Leading Hitmen on back end
Yakemchuk has earned 15 goals and 40 points in 38 games with WHL Calgary this season.
Yakemchuk is a highly regarded prospect -- the right-shot blueliner was the seventh overall pick by Ottawa in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. The Alberta native is on pace for around 72 points in 2024-25, which would be one more than the 71 he recorded in 2023-24. With a few aging veterans on the Senators' right side of the blue line, Yakemchuk is in a good position to be a staple in Ottawa in the coming years, provided that he continues to round out his game at the junior level.

Senators' Carter Yakemchuk: Returned to junior team
Yakemchuk was loaned to WHL Calgary on Monday.
Yakemchuk compiled 30 goals, 71 points and 120 PIM across 66 regular-season WHL contests with the Hitmen in 2023-24. He turned heads during Ottawa's training camp, supplying two tallies and five assists in four exhibition outings, but will return to the junior ranks for additional development. The 19-year-old blueliner could land a roster spot with the Senators entering the 2025-26 campaign.

Senators' Carter Yakemchuk: Two helpers Friday
Yakemchuk provided two assists in Friday's 4-3 overtime exhibition win against Detroit.
Yakemchuk is showing why he was taken No. 7 overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft -- the young blueliner leads the Senators in points during the preseason with seven. Four of the Calgary native's seven points have come on the power play, and he's averaged 21:07 of ice time in four contests. If Yakemchuk is returned to the WHL this season, it'll likely be his final year there before turning pro.

Senators' Carter Yakemchuk: Two-point effort Tuesday
Yakemchuk scored a goal and an assist, both on the power play, in Tuesday's 4-3 preseason win over the Canadiens.
The young blueliner potted what proved to be the game-winning goal, ripping a one-timer from the top of the faceoff circle past Cayden Primeau early in the third period. Yakemchuk just turned 19 years old Sunday and was expected to head back to the WHL for his final season of junior eligibility, but he's been very impressive in camp and the preseason after being selected seventh overall in the 2024 Draft. Thomas Chabot (undisclosed) also left Tuesday's game early, and if he's forced to miss the beginning of the regular season, the Senators may give serious thought to keeping Yakemchuk around.
