The 23-year-old has struggled to stay in the lineup even in a bottom-four role. • Flames' Nikita Okhotyuk: Shipped north

Okhotyuk was traded to Calgary by San Jose on Friday in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round selection.

Okhotyuk is currently stuck in a 14-game goal drought during which he's registered one assist and 18 shots while adding 34 hits and 17 blocks. Even with the move to the Flames, the blueliner is far from a lock for the lineup, especially with Calgary having already added Joel Hanley and Daniil Miromanov (not injury related) via waivers and a trade, respectively.

  • Sharks' Nikita Okhotyuk: Grabs helper in loss

Okhotyuk recorded an assist in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Ducks.

Okhotyuk snapped an 11-game point drought with the helper on an Anthony Duclair tally early in the first period. The slump has cost Okhotyuk some playing time lately, but Marc-Edouard Vlasic's upper-body injury has temporarily opened a place in the lineup. For the season, Okhotyuk has eight points, 47 shots on net, 119 hits, 72 blocked shots, 42 PIM and a minus-21 rating over 41 appearances. The 23-year-old blueliner could gain additional security in the lineup if Ty Emberson (undisclosed) misses time after exiting Thursday's game.

Okhotyuk scored the game-winning goal Thursday in a 3-2 win over the Canadiens.

Okhotyuk is often the forgotten man in the Timo Meier trade with New Jersey. He's known for his physical play, not his scoring. But we have to say he showed a scorer's instinct on Thursday's snipe.
