  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Designated for injured reserve

Crosby (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday and will be out of action for at least four weeks.

Crosby's timeline could put him on the shelf until late March at a minimum. He has amassed 27 goals and 59 points in 56 NHL games this season. Crosby sustained the injury while playing for Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics. With the 38-year-old center unavailable, Pittsburgh looks set to move Rickard Rakell to center alongside Bryan Rust and Avery Hayes.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Won't play against United States

Crosby (lower body) has been ruled out for Sunday's gold medal game against the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Crosby sustained his lower-body injury during Wednesday's quarterfinal matchup against Czechia and was unavailable for Friday's semifinal against Finland. The 38-year-old was considered a game-time decision for Sunday's gold medal game after skating at a closed practice Saturday, but he'll ultimately be held out against Team USA in what seems likely to be his final Olympics. Crosby will now shift his focus toward the resumption of the NHL season, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to suit up for the Penguins' matchup against New Jersey on Thursday.

Crosby (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Team Canada on Sunday in the gold medal game of the 2026 Winter Olympics versus the United States, according to Michelle Crechiolo of the Penguins' official site.

Crosby skated at a closed practice Saturday. He was injured in quarterfinal action against Czechia on Wednesday and sat out Friday's semifinal matchup against Finland. Crosby has 27 goals and 59 points in 56 games with Pittsburgh this season.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Ruled out Friday

Crosby (lower body) will not be available for Team Canada versus Finland in semifinal action at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Friday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.

Crosby sustained a suspected knee injury against Czechia on Wednesday. He hasn't been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament, but it's unclear if he will be ready to play in Sunday's gold medal game or Saturday's bronze medal matchup. Connor McDavid will serve as Canada's captain in Friday's contest due to Crosby's absence, while Sam Bennett (illness) will be in the lineup.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Won't return to Wednesday's game

Crosby (leg) won't return to Wednesday's quarterfinal game against Czechia at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Crosby sustained an apparent right leg injury on a collision early in the second period, and he went to the locker room shortly after. He didn't return to the bench for the start of the third period, and Team Canada announced that the 38-year-old will be unavailable for the remainder of the game. If Canada advances in the tournament, it's unclear whether Crosby would be available for Friday's semifinal matchup.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Exits quarterfinal game

Crosby exited Canada's quarterfinal game against Czechia on Wednesday due to a right leg injury, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports.

Crosby logged 5:55 of ice time before exiting the game. He has excelled in the 2026 Olympics, scoring two goals and six points across three appearances before Wednesday's action. It's not yet known how significant Crosby's injury is, but if Canada beats Czechia, then the nation will advance to the semifinals and play Friday.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Three points against France

Crosby scored a goal and added two assists, one on the power play, in Canada's 10-2 rout of France in Olympic round-robin action Sunday.

The future Hall of Famer doubled his goal and point totals for the tournament, as Crosby set up tallies by Devon Toews in the first period and Cale Makar in the second before potting his own just before the second intermission. Crosby will get a couple days of rest before Canada faces the winner of a Czechia-Denmark qualifying tilt in Wednesday's quarterfinal.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Two-point effort in Olympic opener

Crosby picked up two assists, including one on the power play, in Canada's 5-0 win over Czechia in Olympic round-robin play Thursday.

The future Hall of Famer helped set up tallies by Mark Stone in the second period and Nathan MacKinnon in the third. Canada's offense is led by a new generation of stars in MacKinnon and Connor McDavid, but the 38-year-old Crosby still has plenty left in the tank, and he already has one gold medal-winning goal on his resume from the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Finishes quick flurry of goals

Crosby scored a goal on two shots, added two PIM and went plus-2 in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Oilers.

Crosby finished a stretch of three goals in 37 seconds during the early stages of the first period. The 38-year-old has three goals and five helpers during his active five-game point streak. Crosby is having a superb season for a player of any age, racking up 27 goals, 57 points, 118 shots on net, 34 PIM, 42 hits, 22 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 50 appearances. His shot volume is down a bit at 2.36 per game this season compared to 3.09 shots per game across the previous four campaigns combined, but he's made up for it by shooting 22.9 percent in 2025-26. That's a red flag for the long run, but Crosby's talent is likely enough to keep him productive for the remainder of this year.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Two helpers in Seattle

Crosby picked up two assists in Monday's 6-3 win over the Kraken.

The future Hall of Famer set up Brett Kulak for what proved to be the game-winner late in the second period before having a hand in a Rickard Rakell insurance tally late in the third. Crosby has delivered three straight multi-point efforts, and through 10 games in January, he's churned out five goals and 15 points.
