  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Logs power-play assist in win

Letang had a power-play assist, one shot on net, one block, three hits and two PIM in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Canadiens. Letang had the primary helper on Sidney Crosby's second-period power-play tally. It was Letang's third point with the man advantage this season. The defenseman entered the contest with just one point over the previous eight outings. The three hits raised his season total to 25 over 13 appearances in 2024-25.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Gets on scoresheet with helper

Letang logged an assist, six shots on goal, two hits and a minus-2 rating in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Wild. Letang snapped a six-game point drought, which came after he registered a point in three straight contests early on. The 37-year-old's defense has been lacking this year as well -- he has a minus-8 rating and just eight blocked shots over 11 appearances. Letang has added four points, 27 shots on net, 20 hits and eight PIM. He's still on the top power-play unit, but with the Penguins struggling in their own zone, there's less upside in Letang's game than there has been in previous years.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Points in three straight

Letang scored a goal on two shots along with a blocked shot and three hits in Monday's 6-3 win over the Canadiens. Letang finished off a pretty passing sequence for his second goal in as many games. The defenseman has points in three consecutive contests and continues to be an important cog in the lineup. The 37-year-old is averaging 22:57 of ice time per game.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Puts away power-play goal

Letang scored a power-play goal on two shots, added two hits and went minus-2 in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs. Letang has opened the season with a goal and an assist, both on the power play, over three games. The defenseman has added four shots on net, five hits, four PIM and a minus-3 rating. His struggles in his own zone have yet to cost him ice time -- Letang remains a top-four option, but at 37 years old, it's possible he's lost a step on the ice. Helping his scoring to begin 2024-25 is the Penguins' willingness to deploy both Letang and Erik Karlsson on the top power-play unit.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Set for 2024-25 campaign

Letang (finger) has been cleared for training camp, per Pittsburgh's training camp roster Tuesday. Letang didn't let his finger injury stop him from playing in all 82 games last year in which he generated 10 goals and 41 assists. With the addition of Erik Karlsson, the 37-year-old Letang recorded a meager five power-play points, tied for his lowest total with the man advantage for his career with the exception of 2006-07 when he appeared in just seven contests. Assuming Pittsburgh's power play improves this season -- it would be hard-pressed to get worse -- Letang should inherently see his scoring productivity creep back up this year.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Undergoes finger surgery

Letang had surgery to repair a fractured finger and will need eight weeks to recover, the team announced Wednesday. Letang's recovery timeline shouldn't impact his availability for the start of training camp in the fall. Despite the injury concern, the veteran blueliner played a full 82-game season this past year for the first time since 2010-11. While the Montreal native still managed to rack up 51 points in 2023-24, his productivity with the man advantage dropped significantly, as he managed just five power-play points compared to 21 the campaign before.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: May need surgery

Letang will get a second opinion to determine whether he'll need surgery to address his undisclosed injuries, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports. Although Letang was banged up down the stretch, he appeared in all 82 games for Pittsburgh during the 2023-24 season, racking up 10 goals and 51 points. Another update on the veteran blueliner's status should surface if surgery is required.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Played through injuries

Letang told reporters he was "dealing with some stuff" during the final weeks of the season, per Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Letang was still able to play but did have a handful of maintenance days along the way. Despite being banged up, the veteran blueliner still managed 10 points in his last 11 contests, reaching the 50-point threshold for the seventh time in his NHL career. With Erik Karlsson on the roster, Letang was a relative non-factor with the man advantage this year, earning just five power-play points, something fantasy players will have to factor into their decisions heading into 2024-25.

Letang notched two assists and one shot on net during Monday's 5-2 win over the Rangers. He is now on a modest three-game point streak, producing four assists over that span. Letang recorded a power-play assist in Thursday's 3-2 victory over the Blue Jackets. Letang may be mired in a 10-game goal drought, but he's found ways to contribute with four assists, including two with the man advantage, 18 shots and 17 hits over that stretch. While the veteran blueliner is over the 40-point threshold for the seventh straight year, his power-play numbers have dipped dramatically with just five compared to last season's 21.

Letang produced an assist, five shots on goal, two hits and two PIM in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Canucks. Letang has picked up seven points over his last six games. The defenseman reached the 30-assist mark Tuesday with his secondary helper on Lars Eller's game-tying goal in the third period. Letang is up to 37 points, 117 shots on net, 101 hits, 91 blocked shots, 52 PIM and a plus-16 rating through 56 outings overall. He has just three power-play points, but he's been solid in just about every other area for fantasy purposes.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Two points in Sunday's win

Letang scored the game-winning goal and added a power-play assist in Sunday's 7-6 victory over the Flyers. The veteran blueliner produced his second straight multi-point performance, snapping a scoring slump that had seen Letang cobble together just one goal and six points over his prior 16 contests. Sunday's helper was only his third power-play point of the season, as the addition of Erik Karlsson to the Penguins' lineup has left Letang in danger of failing to score in double digits with the man advantage for the first time since 2009-10.

It's Letang's first multi-point game since Jan. 4 -- he came into Thursday with just one goal and three points in his last 11 contests. Overall, Letang has 34 points (six goals, 28 assists) through 54 games this season.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Playing Wednesday

Letang (undisclosed) will be in the lineup versus the Panthers on Wednesday, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports. Letang left practice for precautionary reasons Monday but appears to be no worse for wear, as the Penguins will be using their full complement of defensemen Wednesday. The veteran blueliner has hit a rough patch offensively with just one point in his last seven games but continues to feature on the top power-play unit ahead of Erik Karlsson.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Dealing with minor injury

Letang left Monday's practice early because he is "nicked up a little bit" according to coach Mike Sullivan, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Letang will have some extra time to get back to 100 percent before Wednesday's matchup with the Panthers, though the Penguins are heading into a back-to-back. The veteran blueliner has managed just one point in his last seven contests despite replacing Erik Karlsson on the No. 1 power-play unit. If Letang were to miss any time, it would likely mean more minutes for John Ludvig and Pierre-Olivier Joseph.

The defenseman's slump isn't for a lack of opportunities, as he has put 21 shots on net over that stretch and is averaging 1:42 of power-play ice time despite being dropped to the No. 2 unit.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Three more helpers Thursday

Letang recorded three assists in Thursday's 6-5 win over the Bruins. The veteran blueliner has been feast or famine lately -- Letang has three games of three or more points in the last 10 contests, but he was held off the scoresheet entirely in the other seven. He's been finding other ways to contribute though, racking up 13 hits, 17 blocked shots, 20 PIM, 25 shots on net and a plus-3 rating during that time. On the season, Letang's produced three goals and 26 points in 37 games, putting him on pace for his seventh career 50-point campaign if he can avoid the injury bug.
