Giants' Malachi Fields: Hauls in score in preseason opener
Fields caught all three of his targets for 34 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 13-10 preseason loss to the Vikings.
The rookie wideout needed every inch of his 6-foot-4 frame on the Giants' lone TD of the afternoon. Early in the second quarter, Jaxson Dart got flushed out of the pocket and tossed up an off-balance 15-yard pass into the end zone that Fields skied to snag over 5-foot-10 linebacker Ivan Pace in coverage. Fields, a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, has a clear path to the No. 2 receiver job in New York, with veteran holdover Darius Slayton and former Steeler Calvin Austin as his main competition. Standing out as a red-zone threat to complement Malik Nabers might be Fields' best way to win it.

Giants' Malachi Fields: Making case for WR2 role?
Fields has "made an early claim for the No. 2 receiver spot" in the Giants' offense, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic.
The rookie third-round pick isn't without competition, as the Giants also have veterans Darius Slayton, Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin competing for snaps behind No. 1 receiver Malik Nabers (knee). At 6-foot-4, 222 pounds, Fields offers a physical element the others can't match, and he's reportedly making a good impression so far at training camp. That doesn't mean he'll be a Week 1 starter, but he's at least throwing his hat in the ring.

Giants' Malachi Fields: Snagged by Giants
The Giants selected Fields in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 74th overall.
The Giants traded up with the Browns for the 74th pick in order to bring Fields into a wide receiver room that lost Wan'Dale Robinson to the Titans in free agency but features Malik Nabers (knee) and Darius Slayton. Fields spent the first four years of his college career with Virginia before transferring to Notre Dame in 2025, though he saw his production dip in his lone season with the Fighting Irish, finishing with 36 catches for 630 yards and five touchdowns across 12 games. Fields is a physical wideout with a 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame that he can use to his advantage against smaller corners, but he also displayed his speed with a 6.98-second three-cone time at the NFL Combine. He has the size and catch radius to serve as a competent WR2 for the Giants behind Nabers.
