  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Moves to 7-day IL
    By RotoWire

The Angels placed d'Arnaud on the 7-day concussion IL on Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. D'Arnaud will join fellow backstop Logan O'Hoppe on the concussion IL after the former was hit in the head by a backswing during Thursday's contest. Sebastian Rivero will continue to start most days behind home plate while the other two catchers are out, and the Halos will promote Chad Wallach from Triple-A Salt Lake to provide depth at the position.

  • D'Arnaud will start at catcher and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Cubs. With No. 1 backstop Logan O'Hoppe getting a breather for the series finale after starting at catcher Friday and Saturday, d'Arnaud will receive a turn behind the dish Sunday. Since the All-Star break, d'Arnaud is hitting a lowly .091/.216/.136 with zero home runs, zero steals, one RBI and three runs in 16 games.

  • D'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 11-8 victory against the Rangers. D'Arnaud's long ball was a solo shot in the fourth inning that tied the game 5-5. The veteran backstop has homered in each of his past two games, going 4-for-8 with four RBI over that stretch. While Logan O'Hoppe remains the Angels' primary catcher, he's recorded a 0:16 BB:K and .205 batting average over his past 10 games, so d'Arnaud could log a bit more playing time if the Angels opt to give O'Hoppe some time to reset. As it is, d'Arnaud has started over O'Hoppe in two of the team's past three contests.

  • D'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two total runs and three total RBI in a 6-5 win against the Rangers on Monday. D'Arnaud gave the Angels their first lead with a two-run blast in the second inning. The Rangers retook the lead by the end of the third, but d'Arnaud came through again in the sixth, tying the score with a run-scoring double. The veteran backstop remains the clear backup to Logan O'Hoppe, and this was his first start in the team's past five games. D'Arnaud has just a .662 OPS on the season but has offered a bit of pop with five home runs over 142 plate appearances.
