Trout is not in the Angels' starting lineup against the Twins on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Fletcher relays that it's a planned off-day for Trout, who will play center field Saturday and will either play center field or serve as the designated hitter in Sunday's series finale. Josh Lowe will start in center field Friday while Wade Meckler and Jo Adell man the corners.

Trout went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and a second run scored in Wednesday's 13-1 win over the Rangers. Trout missed about three weeks due to a hamstring strain before being reinstated from the injured list Wednesday. He served as the designated hitter in his return to the lineup, and it wouldn't be surprising to see most of his playing time there as he eases back into action without a rehab assignment. The star outfielder is up to 18 homers and 38 RBI on the year, and he's batting .234 with an .874 OPS across 75 contests.

The Angels activated Trout (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Trout will skip a rehab assignment and return to the active roster after missing nearly three weeks of action due to a right hamstring strain. The three-time American League MVP will start at designated hitter and bat second in Wednesday's contest against the Rangers.

Trout (hamstring) took batting practice on the field Saturday and said he could return from the 10-day injured list during the Angels' upcoming series with the Rangers, which begins Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Trout has been shelved since June 17 due to a right hamstring strain. He recently ramped up his on-field activities and said Saturday that he ran at about 90 percent speed with "no pain." All signs point to Trout being activated next week, perhaps as soon as Tuesday. Trout was also named an American League All-Star starter Saturday, and he'll presumably be able to appear in the Midsummer Classic as long as he doesn't experience any setbacks during the upcoming week.

Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said Friday that Trout (hamstring) is improving in his recovery and is "really close" to returning from the 10-day injured list, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Trout continues to progress his recovery from a hamstring injury that landed him on the 10-day IL in mid-June. Per Greg Beacham of The Associated Press, Trout is expected to hit on the field this weekend and is on track to be back with the Angels early next week against the Rangers. Prior to being placed on the IL, Trout had an .866 OPS with seven steals, 17 home runs and 36 RBI across 335 plate appearances.
