• Liam Hendriks: Sox decline option

  The Red Sox declined Hendriks' (elbow) $12 million mutual option for 2026 on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Hendriks missed the majority of the season with hip and elbow injuries and posted a 6.59 ERA across 13.2 innings when healthy, so the Red Sox will pay him a $2 million buyout instead of the $12 million he would have been owed next year. The right-handed reliever is set to turn 37 in February, and although he may still receive some interest on the open market despite his injury history, there likely isn't a landing spot where he would have a chance to pitch in high-leverage situations consistently -- at least not right away.

• Red Sox's Liam Hendriks: Undergoes elbow surgery

  Hendriks recently underwent right elbow ulnar nerve transposition with posterior interosseous nerve release surgery, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. There's no word yet on a timeline for Hendriks' recovery, but it's possible his availability for the beginning of next season is affected. Hendriks was limited to only 13.2 innings for the Red Sox in 2025, mostly due to a hip injury, and held a 6.59 ERA and 12:7 K:BB. He will turn 37 in February and will be a free agent this winter.

  The Red Sox pulled Hendriks (hip) off his throwing program Saturday after he experienced tightness in his forearm, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. A hip injury sent Hendriks to the injured list in late May, and now that he's been shut down from throwing, he'll almost certainly remain sidelined for the rest of the year. The 36-year-old righty will finish 2025 with a 6.59 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 13.2 innings.

  Hendriks (hip) has progressed out to 105 feet in his throwing program and expects to increase his distance to 120 feet Saturday, MLB.com reports. Hendriks is hoping to throw off a mound next week and is aiming to return before the end of the regular season or for the postseason.

  The Red Sox transferred Hendriks (hip) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday. According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, Hendriks recently suffered a setback with his right hip injury and is seeking a second opinion. He's been out since late May and now won't be eligible for activation until late July. The move frees a 40-man roster spot for the addition of Isaiah Campbell.
