Gausman (9-12) allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out six over four innings to take the loss versus the Brewers on Wednesday. Gausman wasn't able to match his performance from last week against Milwaukee, when he surrendered just one run over seven frames. He was tagged for a trio of home runs over the first two innings Wednesday, accounting for six of the seven runs on his line. This was the third time in seven starts with the Cubs that Gausman has failed to complete five frames, and he's been charged with five or more runs three times in that span as well. Overall, he has a 4.60 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 171:46 K:BB through 166.1 innings over 30 starts between the Cubs and the Blue Jays. The right-hander's next projected start is another tough one at home versus Atlanta next week.

He'll try to build more momentum his next time out in a road rematch with Milwaukee, holding a 4.37 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 38:8 K:BB in 35 innings since being traded from Toronto.

Gausman (8-11) earned the win against the Reds on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out seven. Gausman didn't have his best stuff Saturday, serving up a pair of two-run home runs on the afternoon, but he received plenty of support on a day the Cubs exploded for 17 runs. The veteran right-hander has been shaky since coming over from Toronto, posting a 5.14 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 29:7 K:BB in 28 innings for his new club. He'll carry a season 4.52 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 156:43 K:BB over 155.1 innings into his next scheduled outing against Milwaukee.

Gausman (hand) is listed as the Cubs' probable starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Gausman dealt with cramping in his non-pitching hand during his previous appearance in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox, but he apparently made it through his between-starts bullpen session without issue and will be able to take his next turn through the rotation on five days' rest. Since being acquired from the Blue Jays on Aug. 2, Gausman has gone 1-1 with a 6.19 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB in 16 innings through his first three starts with the Cubs.
