  • Angels' Hunter Strickland: Not yet throwing
    By RotoWire

Strickland (shoulder) is progressing in his recovery from a right shoulder strain but isn't yet throwing, per MLB.com. The details of how Strickland is "progressing" aren't clear, but it's nonetheless the first positive report on the reliever since he landed on the IL with a right shoulder strain July 7. While the injury was considered significant, it didn't require surgery, and there remains a possibility that Strickland could be back with the Angels sometime in September. However, in order for that to happen, he'll likely need to begin a throwing progression in the relatively near future.

  • The Angels transferred Strickland (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday. Strickland has been diagnosed with a "significant strain" in his right shoulder, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, and now won't be eligible to return from the injured list until sometime in early September. The Angels needed the 40-man roster spot in order to select the contract of reliever Carson Fulmer from Triple-A Salt Lake.

  • Strickland was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right shoulder inflammation. Strickland tossed a scoreless frame and registered a strikeout in Sunday's series finale against the Blue Jays, so it's unclear as to when this issue may have flared up. Victor Mederos was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.

  • Strickland recorded one out to pick up the save in Monday's 1-0 extra-innings win against the Yankees. The veteran right-hander collected his 30th career save by retiring Anthony Volpe on a groundout. Strickland relieved Brock Burke in the 11th inning after the latter loaded the bases with two outs. There isn't a closer controversy in Anaheim, as Kenley Jansen pitched earlier in this contest when the game was scoreless in the ninth.

  • The Angels selected Strickland's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. The veteran right-hander will join the Angels just two weeks after signing with the organization on a minor-league deal. Strickland opened the year in the minors with the Rangers but was granted his release after giving up 14 earned runs in 12 appearances. He was an effective bullpen option for Anaheim last year with a 3.31 ERA and 12 holds over 73.1 innings.
