  Polanco will start at designated hitter and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers. Though he'll be included in the starting nine for the series finale, Polanco has cracked the Mets' lineup just three times in the last seven games. Since he's not yet cleared to play first base since making his return from a lengthy stay on the shelf due to Achilles and ankle injuries, Polanco will be limited to the DH spot. The Mets may be more inclined to rotate players at DH rather than leaning on Polanco as the primary option, especially while he's mustered a lowly .489 OPS through 21 games on the season.

  Polanco isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies. Polanco will grab a seat in the dugout to begin Saturday's game after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Thursday's second-half opener. While he sits, Juan Soto will work as the Mets' designated hitter, allowing Tyrone Taylor to start in left field.

  Polanco is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. Polanco will hit the bench for the Mets' final game before the All-Star break while Juan Soto gets a day off from playing the outfield as the designated hitter. Since being activated from the 60-day injured list July 7, Polanco has started at DH in four of six games, going 3-for-16 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run. He's not expected to be available to play first base anytime soon coming off injuries to his Achilles and ankle, and unless he's able to catch fire at the plate, Polanco could find himself on the bench once Luis Robert (back) returns from the 60-day IL at some point following the All-Star break.

  The Mets reinstated Polanco (Achilles/ankle/wrist) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday. The 33-year-old is ready to rejoin the Mets after an absence of nearly three months due to Achilles, ankle and wrist injuries. The switch-hitting Polanco is expected to work exclusively as a designated hitter early on after the lengthy IL stint. He played in just 14 games prior to landing on the shelf and batted .179 (10-for-56) with one home run and three doubles.

  The Mets transferred Polanco (Achilles/ankle) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday. He has already spent over 60 days on the shelf, so the transaction won't affect Polanco's timeline for a return and was made for the purpose of opening up a 40-man roster spot for infielder Zack Short, whom the Mets claimed off waivers from the Tigers. Polanco was pulled off his rehab assignment earlier this month when he experienced renewed soreness in his ankle, but he received a favorable evaluation after undergoing an MRI last week and is expected to resume playing in minor-league games this week. He'll be used exclusively as a designated hitter when he restarts the assignment and could eventually displace MJ Melendez as the top option at that spot once he's deemed ready to return from the IL.
