  The Phillies released Gallagher on Saturday. Gallagher appeared in 56 games for Cleveland in 2023, but he had yet to play at any level in 2024. After failing to win a spot on the Phillies' Opening Day roster coming out of spring training, Gallagher had resided on Triple-A Lehigh Valley's restricted list prior to being cut loose.

  Gallagher (knee) has appeared in each of the Phillies' last three Grapefruit League games, going a collective 1-for-4 with an RBI. Gallagher was scratched from the Phillies' lineup ahead of last Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins due to a right knee contusion, but he needed only a few days to move past the issue. The 31-year-old is battling Garrett Stubbs for the Phillies' No. 2 catcher job this spring.

  Gallagher was scratched from the Phillies' lineup ahead of Saturday's spring training game versus Miami due to a right knee contusion. Gallagher will presumably get a few days off as a result of his injured knee. The 31-year-old backstop entered camp looking to win a roster spot as J.T. Realmuto's backup, though Gallagher has gone just 2-for-13 across six games this spring.

  Gallagher signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Sunday that includes an invitation to major-league camp, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Rafael Marchan (back) is a bit banged up early in camp, so the Phillies elected to bring aboard Gallagher for some extra catching depth. Gallagher appeared in 56 games for Cleveland last season but was awful at the plate with a .126/.154/.168 slash line and 30.9 percent strikeout rate.

• Cam Gallagher: Becomes free agent

  Gallagher elected free agency Friday. The Guardians DFA'd Gallagher on Monday after he put up an .322 OPS over 149 plate appearances, and the 30-year-old backstop will now look to latch on with another team. Given his performance in 2023 and underwhelming MLB track record, it's unlikely Gallagher will be offered more than a minor-league deal.
