Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Diaz will be rested along with fellow veteran Brandon Lowe in the season finale. Jonathan Aranda will serve as the Rays' designated hitter in place of Diaz, who has hit .300 with 25 home runs, three steals, 83 RBI and 79 runs in 150 games.

Diaz (groin) will DH and bat second Friday against Toronto. Diaz was removed from Thursday's game due to tightness in his right groin and was deemed day-to-day by manager Kevin Cash. However, Diaz is in the starting lineup for Friday's contest. He's 17-for-36 (.472) with two home runs and a 10:4 BB:K in his last 11 games.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Thursday that Diaz (groin) is day-to-day, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Diaz had to be lifted from Thursday's game in Baltimore in the fifth inning with right groin tightness. While the injury is considered minor, it's possible Diaz is held out of action this weekend in Toronto as a precaution.

Diaz went 3-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 11-7 loss to the Red Sox. Diaz was strong in a losing effort, reaching base four times for the second time in three days and giving the Rays an early lead with a solo homer in the third inning. The 34-year-old has stayed red hot in September, batting .429 with seven extra-base hits, eight RBI, 13 runs scored and a 12:8 BB:K through 17 games. On the season, he's slashing .300/.365/.488 with 25 home runs, 82 RBI, 76 runs scored and three steals across a career-high 631 plate appearances.

Diaz went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Diaz continued his excellent September by tallying his third consecutive multi-hit game. Across 15 games in the month, Diaz has hit .429 with a .515 on-base percentage while tallying two homers, seven RBI and 11 runs scored. He's also had an excellent season overall, posting career-high marks in home runs (24) and RBI (81).
