    By RotoWire

Zimmer was released by the Rockies on Sunday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The 31-year-old was let go Sunday with the Rockies acquiring Jake Cave from the Phillies. Zimmer had a strong showing during spring training with a .341/.400/.512 slash line in 45 plate appearances.

  • Zimmer signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Zimmer spent time at the Triple-A level in the Dodgers and Red Sox organizations in 2023, hitting eight homers and stealing 19 bases in 78 games. The 31-year-old has a career .631 OPS and 33.9 percent strikeout rate over parts of six major-league seasons. He'll try to win a reserve outfielder role in Colorado.

  • Zimmer signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Zimmer was just released by the Dodgers, so it appears this deal was already in the works. The veteran outfielder has managed just a .665 OPS at the Triple-A level this season but will give the Red Sox some experienced outfield depth.

  • Zimmer was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Dodgers on Saturday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Zimmer was attempting to win one of the final bench spots for the Dodgers to open the season after signing as an NRI over the winter. The former top prospect hit .276/.400/.345 with a pair of stolen bases over 20 games in the Cactus League, but he'll likely begin the 2023 season as a starting outfielder for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

  • Zimmer agreed to a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Zimmer will presumably be with the big leaguers in spring training, at least to begin camp. He would seem to be a long shot to make the team, though he remains viable as an outfield reserve thanks to his speed and defense. Now 30, Zimmer has struck out in more than one-third of his 975 major-league plate appearances to date while slugging .333 across 372 games.
