The Yankees signed Phillips to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Phillips had played the outfield since entering the professional ranks in 2012, but he'll make the conversion to pitching as he joins the Yankees organization. The 30-year-old made his pitching debut Monday in the National Baseball Congress World Series and was throwing in the mid- to high-90s, which immediately earned him an opportunity in affiliated ball. He'll report to the Yankees' spring training complex in Florida initially.

The White Sox released Phillips on Saturday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Phillips signed a minor-league deal with Chicago in January and slashed just .120/.228/.280 across 57 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. He'll now look to latch on with another organization on a minor-league deal, but his odds of contributing in the big leagues again appear slim.

Phillips signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Thursday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Phillips, 29, spent most of 2023 at Triple-A Salt Lake in the Angels organization. He did see 71 plate appearances with the Halos, slashing just .175/.268/.333 with an obscene 51 percent strikeout rate. Phillips is likely headed to Triple-A Charlotte to start 2024, although the club's lack of outfield depth could force him into some action at the major-league level.

Phillips elected free agency Monday. Phillips was removed from the Angels' 40-man roster and has exercised his right to elect free agency rather than accept an outright assignment. The veteran outfielder has collected a career .619 OPS over parts of seven big-league seasons.

Phillips is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. The lefty-hitting Phillips will head to the bench for the fourth time in five games, with all four absences coming against right-handed pitching. He appears to have lost hold of his regular role in center field, with Jo Adell having supplanted Phillips as the Angels' preferred option at the position while Mickey Moniak (back) remains on the injured list.
