  • Josh Staumont: Free agent again
    By RotoWire

The Cubs released Staumont on Thursday, Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reports. Staumont just inked a minor-league contract with the Cubs two weeks ago after he had been released by the Twins, and the righty has now been cut loose again. The 30-year-old made just two appearances with Triple-A Iowa, allowing two runs over one inning while walking five batters. A few years ago, Staumont looked like he would have a nice career as a reliever, but he's struggled to bounce back from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery.

  • The Cubs signed Staumont to a minor-league contract Friday, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul reports. He will report to Triple-A Iowa for now, but the Cubs could call the reliever up later this month. Staumont posted a 3.70 ERA in 24.1 innings with the Twins this season, but he had just a 18:14 K:BB and had surrendered 10 runs over his last six appearances before being released.

  • Josh Staumont: Cut by Minnesota
    By RotoWire

The Twins released Staumont on Saturday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Staumont was removed from the Twins' 40-man roster earlier in the week after the Twins cleared room for trade-deadline addition Trevor Richards. The right-hander went unclaimed on waivers prior to ultimately being let go Saturday. The reliever has produced a respectable 3.70 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 18 strikeouts over 24.1 innings in 25 appearances with Minnesota this season, and he'll likely get another shot with a big-league club in the near future.

  • Twins' Josh Staumont: DFA'd by Twins
    By RotoWire

The Twins designated Staumont for assignment Tuesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. With Trevor Richards coming over to Minnesota in a trade with Toronto on Tuesday, Staumont will end up as the odd man out of a spot on the Twins' roster. The 30-year-old was able to get through his first seven MLB appearances of the year without allowing an earned run. However, he's given up 10 earned runs in just 4.2 innings since July 12.

  • Staumont allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout over one inning Friday against the Giants, ending a 19.2-inning scoreless streak to begin the season. Staumont has had an impressive comeback after having thoracic outlet syndrome surgery last July. He's had increased velocity as the season has progressed, reaching a high of 101.1 mph with his fastball July 7. However, he's been a bit lucky with a .185 BABIP and just a 20.5 percent strikeout rate. He may find a tougher road in the second half of the season, but he's been a steady middle relief option.
