  • Allen re-signed with the Diamondbacks on Sunday on a minor-league contract. Allen had elected free agency Thursday after clearing waivers, but just three days later, he opted to rejoin the Arizona organization and reported to Triple-A Reno. He was put to work right away Sunday in Reno's 10-6 win over Sacramento, starting and covering three innings while giving up two earned runs on four hits and two walks. Allen had been used exclusively in relief in his 12 appearances for Arizona prior to being moved off the 40-man roster, posting a 5.46 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 28 innings.

  • The Diamondbacks outrighted Allen to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. Allen was removed from Arizona's 40-man roster earlier this week, but he has since cleared waivers and will remain in the organization as pitching depth. The lefty has been used in long relief during his time with the Diamondbacks this season.

  • Allen picked up the save Tuesday against St. Louis, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts over three scoreless innings. The Diamondbacks needed only two arms during Tuesday's 14-1 rout, with Allen taking over for starter Tommy Henry in the seventh and closing out the game. The save was Allen's first of his five-year MLB career (34 appearances), and the outing marked his second appearance with the D-Backs this season.

  • Allen (0-1) was tagged with Thursday's loss, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out three over 4.2 relief innings against the Giants. Allen, who had his contract selected Wednesday to serve as a long reliever, was needed immediately. The left-hander entered to begin the third inning in place of starter Ryne Nelson, who had taken a liner off his elbow the inning before. Allen allowed all three hits and his lone run in that inning of work. He then settled in, utilizing a changeup that's been effective for him at Triple-A Reno according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, and he kept Arizona in the game before departing with two outs in the seventh and the Giants leading, 1-0. Nelson may have avoided serious injury -- X-rays came back negative -- but the club will see how he responds Friday before making any decisions. If he's unable to make his next start, scheduled for Tuesday, Allen is a sensible option as a fill-in starter.

    By RotoWire

The Diamondbacks selected Allen's contract from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. Arizona is in need of bullpen reinforcements following Tuesday's extra-inning victory over the Cubs. Allen has yielded four earned runs with a 9:3 K:BB over 12 innings with Reno this season and should be able to cover multiple frames out of the bullpen when needed.
