  • Fargas announced Saturday via his personal Twitter account that he signed a minor-league contract with the Mets. The speedy 27-year-old made his MLB debut with the Mets last season when the team was without numerous outfielders due to injury, but he eventually lost his spot on the 40-man roster in July once the team regained some health. He was then claimed off waivers by the Cubs and made a brief return to the majors, ultimately finishing his first big-league campaign with a .250/.264/.385 slash line in 54 plate appearances between his two stops. Now back with the Mets to begin the 2022 season, Fargas should get the opportunity to attend big-league camp as a non-roster invitee, but he'll be a long shot to win a spot on New York's Opening Day roster.

  • Fargas was returned to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Fargas appeared in 15 major-league games after he was claimed off waivers by the Cubs in July, and he slashed .226/.250/.290 with three runs, two RBI and a stolen base during that time. However, the 26-year-old will now be removed from the 40-man roster.

  • Fargas' contract was selected from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Fargas was outrighted to the minors in late August, and he slashed .230/.269/.392 with two homers, 11 runs, six RBI and four stolen bases across 21 appearances in Iowa since then. He'll serve as outfield depth after Nick Martini (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list Friday.

  • Fargas cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Fargas was designated for assignment Wednesday, and he'll remain in the organization at Triple-A Iowa. The 26-year-old has appeared in 10 games at the Triple-A level this year, hitting .275 with a homer, nine runs, three RBI and 10 stolen bases.

  • The Cubs designated Fargas for assignment Wednesday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Fargas was a casualty from the 40-man roster after the Cubs needed to create a spot for their starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Adrian Sampson, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Iowa. After coming over from the Mets in late July on a waiver claim, Fargas appeared in 13 games for Chicago and hit .269 with one stolen base. Michael Hermosillo should serve as the Cubs' clear fourth outfielder now that Fargas is out of the picture.
