Kingery agreed to a one-year, $770,000 contract with the Angels to avoid arbitration Thursday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. Kingery hasn't appeared in the majors since 2021, but the Angels acquired him from the Phillies on Nov. 1 and added him to the 40-man roster three days later. He should have a chance to compete for a bench role in the middle infield during spring training.

The Angels selected Kingery's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday. Kingery spent the last two seasons with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but he was acquired by the Angels on Friday in exchange for cash considerations. Across 125 regular-season outings for Lehigh in 2024, he slased .273/.321/.505 with 26 stolen bases, 27 home runs and 70 RBI over 507 plate appearances. He last played in the majors in 2021 with the Phillies, during which he went 1-for-19 with 12 strikeouts across 15 regular-season games.

The Angels acquired Kingery from the Phillies on Friday in exchange for cash considerations. Kingery, 30, has spent each of the last two seasons at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, most recently hitting .268/.316/.488 with 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases there in 2024. The former top prospect hasn't received an extended look in the majors since 2019, but perhaps he'll get another shot in his new organization.

Kingery (illness) went 0-for-3 with a run scored and a strikeout while seeing action at shortstop and second base in Grapefruit League games Friday and Saturday. Kingery hadn't played in any spring games for about a week due to an illness before returning to action Friday. Though he's seemingly healthy again, Kingery is likely to be reassigned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley before camp comes to a close.

Kingery was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta due to an illness, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Kingery had been slated to start at shortstop and bat eighth, but he became the latest victim of the bug that has been making its way around the Phillies clubhouse. Though Kingery is attending big-league camp as a non-roster invitee, he's considered a longshot to make the Phillies' Opening Day roster and is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
