  • Cabrera (8-7) earned the win against the Mets on Sunday, allowing two hits and five walks while striking out seven across five scoreless innings. Cabrera's command was off in Sunday's regular-season finale, logging a season-high five walks while tallying just 44 strikes on 83 pitches. Three of those free passes came in the fifth inning, but he was able to get out of the frame unscathed after getting Pete Alonso to line out to left field. Cabrera's efforts earned him his eighth win of the season -- a career high -- and he'll end the 2025 campaign with a 3.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 150:48 K:BB across 137.2 innings.

  • Cabrera came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Phillies, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three. The right-hander returned from an elbow sprain for the final week of the season, having last pitched Aug. 30. Cabrera tossed 40 of 67 pitches for strikes but served up homers to Kyle Schwarber and Otto Kemp, and he exited the mound in line for the loss until the Marlins' offense woke up late. Cabrera has had something of a breakout campaign between IL stints, posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 143:43 K:BB over a career-high 132.2 innings, and he could get one more start on the final day of the season, at home against a Mets team currently scrambling to hang onto a playoff spot.

  • Marlins manager Clayton McCullough confirmed that Cabrera (elbow) will return from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game in Philadelphia, MLB.com reports. Cabrera looked to be at risk of missing the rest of the season after he was placed on the IL on Sept. 1 due to a right elbow sprain, but he ramped up quickly during his throwing program and now has a chance to make two starts in the final week of the 2025 campaign. Though he didn't head out on a minor-league rehab assignment while he's been on the shelf, Cabrera was able to build up to 50 pitches in a simulated game last Wednesday and reportedly touched 97 miles per hour with his fastball. He'll likely be operating on a limited pitch count Tuesday, though if he's able to retire Phillies batters in efficient fashion, he could reach the five innings he would need to hit to qualify for a win.

  • Cabrera (elbow) resumed a throwing program Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Cabrera looked to be in danger of missing the rest of the season after he was placed on the injured list Sept. 1 due to a right elbow sprain, but his ability to resume throwing a week later leaves the door open for him to pitch again in 2025. Because he hasn't been shelved for a prolonged period, Cabrera should have sufficient time to get stretched back out for a starting role, provided he experiences no hiccups during the buildup process. Prior to being shut down last week, Cabrera had submitted a 3.50 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 52:14 K:BB In 46.1 innings over his eight starts since the All-Star break.

  • The Marlins placed Cabrera on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a right elbow sprain. The team hasn't revealed when Cabrera's elbow began bothering him, but he was knocked around in his last start, allowing six runs (five earned) over four innings in a win over the Mets on Saturday. The right-hander will be evaluated further before a timeline for his return is laid out. Given the nature of the injury, a return before the end of the season seems unlikely, and surgery could be a possibility. If his season is indeed over, Cabrera will finish with a 3.57 ERA and 140:42 K:BB over 128.2 innings covering 24 starts.
