Herget signed a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training with the Mets on Thursday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Herget was designated for assignment by the Mets in late September and became a free agent a few days later. He's now back with the club and will battle for a spot in the team's bullpen during spring training.

The Mets designated Herget for assignment Saturday. Herget will lose his spot on the active and 40-man rosters, opening a spot for Dylan Ross to join the big-league club. After being picked up by the Mets in mid-July, Herget allowed three runs with a 5:3 K:BB across 10 big-league innings.

The Mets recalled Herget from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Herget has posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 12 innings in the big leagues this season, and he'll now return to give the Mets' bullpen another fresh arm for the final few games of the regular season. Richard Lovelady was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

The Mets optioned Herget to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. Herget will head back to Syracuse after a four-day stint in the big leagues. He appeared in two games during that stretch, allowing three runs across 2.1 innings Tuesday before pitching 1.2 scoreless frames Saturday. Herget has a 2.00 ERA in 27 innings with Syracuse this season.

The Mets recalled Herget from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. Herget was touched up for three runs over 2.1 innings in Tuesday's win over the Tigers. The righty reliever will operate in a low-leverage role in the Mets' bullpen down the stretch.
