• Yankees' Luis Gil: Takes Game 1 loss

  Gil took the loss in Saturday's ALDS Game 1 against the Blue Jays after giving up two earned runs on four hits and zero walks while striking out two batters over 2.2 innings. Both of the runs scored against Gil came via the long ball, as Vladimir Guerrero's first-inning homer and Alejandro Kirk's second-inning blast would prove to be all Toronto needed to ensure a victory during a 10-1 win over New York. It's unlikely that Gil makes another start during the ALDS, but because manager Aaron Boone pulled the plug on his outing after just 48 pitches, the 27-year-old righty may be available to pitch out of the bullpen within the next game or two.

  Gil is listed on the Yankees' roster for the ALDS. Gil was left off the Yankees' active roster during the wild-card round, but he'll now officially rejoin the pitching staff ahead of his start in Game 1 on Saturday. The 27-year-old righty faced the Blue Jays once in the regular season, giving up just one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out one batter over six innings.

  Gil is not part of the Yankees' wild-card roster. The Yankees are going with Max Fried, Carlos Rodon and Cam Schlittler as their three starters in the American League Wild Card Series against the Red Sox, and they've decided against including Gil on the roster as a reliever. Will Warren is on the roster as a reliever, and either Warren or Gil could be added back to the rotation if the Yankees advance to the ALDS.

  Gil didn't factor into the decision in Sunday's win against Baltimore. allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two and walking two across five innings. The right-hander cruised early, retiring nine of the first 10 batters he faced before serving up back-to-back home runs from Jordan Westburg and Gunnar Henderson in the fourth inning. While the outing was effective overall, Gil failed to receive much run support from the offense, resulting in him missing out on the win. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year has only completed six innings in three of his 11 starts this season after making his debut Aug. 3, but he has only allowed more than two runs twice. Gil finishes the regular season with a 3.32 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 41:33 K:BB across 57 innings.

  Gil didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the White Sox, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three. The right-hander made only one real mistake, but Colson Montgomery drove it over the fence in the sixth inning for a two-run homer. Gil has produced quality starts in three of four September outings, posting a 2.78 ERA and 1.24 WHIP through 22.2 innings on the month despite a concerning 10:12 K:BB. Gil currently lines up to pitch on the final day of the season, at home against the Orioles, but the Yankees could change their rotation plans depending on whether they're still in a battle with the Blue Jays for the AL East title by then.
