  The Nationals placed Gore on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right ankle impingement. Gore suffered an ankle injury earlier this season, although it's not clear whether this is an aggravation of that injury. Either way, his season is now over. The left-hander had an up-and-down 2025 campaign, finishing with a 4.17 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 185:64 K:BB over 159.2 innings covering 30 starts.

  Gore (5-15) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over two-plus innings against Atlanta. He struck out three. Gore didn't make it out of the third inning Monday, giving up two early runs before being lifted after allowing two baserunners to start the frame. It's been a tale of two halves for the southpaw, who carried a 3.02 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through 19 starts and 110.1 innings before the All-Star break but has struggled since, now sitting with a 4.17 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 30 starts and 159.2 innings. The 26-year-old is currently lined up to pitch the Nationals' season finale Sunday, though the club could decide to shut him down early.

• Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Dazzles in pitchers' duel Tuesday

  Gore came away with a no-decision in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Atlanta, allowing two hits and three walks over 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out five. Matched up against fellow left-handed ace Chris Sale, Gore rose to the occasion, tossing 56 of 92 pitches for strikes before leaving the mound in a 0-0 tie that wasn't decided until the 10th inning. Gore hasn't seemed overly affected by the bout of shoulder inflammation that sidelined him briefly in early September, and through two outings since coming off the IL he's given up two runs in 10.1 innings with a 9:5 K:BB. He'll look for his first win since Aug. 10 in his final start of 2025, a rematch with Atlanta on the road early next week.

• Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Takes loss in return

  Gore (5-14) took the loss against the Marlins on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings. Gore was cleared to return from the 15-day injured list Thursday after recovering from left shoulder inflammation. He got off to a rocky start by yielding two runs in the first inning, but the 26-year-old southpaw kept the Marlins off the board over the next four frames and finished with 11 whiffs on 78 pitches (50 strikes). Gore has given up three earned runs or less in each of his last five starts, and while his 177 strikeouts (across 152.1 innings) is 10th best in the National League, his 14 losses is tied with Zac Gallen and Mitch Keller for fourth worst in the NL. Gore is slated to face Atlanta at home next week.

• Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Coming off injured list Thursday

  Gore (shoulder) is scheduled to be activated off the 15-day injured list to pitch Thursday against the Marlins, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports. The left-hander landed on the shelf in late August due to shoulder inflammation and will rejoin the Nationals after spending the 15-day minumum on the injured list. In his last two starts before heading to the IL, Gore allowed six earned runs with eight strikeouts and six walks across 9.1 innings.
