  • Mets' David Peterson: Hit hard against Cubs
    By RotoWire

Peterson allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one batter in 1.1 innings Tuesday against the Cubs. He did not factor into the decision. Peterson continued his stretch of horrendous starts in Tuesday's outing. In nine starts dating back to Aug. 6, Peterson has allowed at least four runs in six of them and has an 8.42 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over that span. The Cubs strung together a pair of runs in the first and another three in the second, forcing a quick hook for Peterson after he threw just 42 pitches (22 strikes). Manager Carlos Mendoza mentioned afterward that Peterson could play a big role for the remaining five games of the regular season, potentially pitching out of the bullpen. As of now, Peterson is lined up to start Sunday against the Nationals, though that would change if he's used in relief in advance of that game.

  • Mets' David Peterson: Falls to San Diego
    By RotoWire

Peterson (9-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Padres, surrendering six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out one over five innings. The left-hander kept things close early but imploded in the fifth, when he issued two walks and allowed a bunt single to load the bases before Manny Machado cleared them with a grand slam. Peterson has struggled mightily since the beginning of August, posting a 6.99 ERA across nine outings (46.1 innings) and recording only two quality starts during that stretch. The 30-year-old is slated to face the Cubs in his next outing.

  • Peterson didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Phillies, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out eight. While Peterson remains without a quality start since Aug. 19 in Washington, he's now fanned at least eight in three of his last five outings. The All-Star southpaw pounded the zone for 61 strikes among his 86 pitches Thursday while generating 19 whiffs, though he did serve up his first homer since Aug. 6 against Cleveland. Peterson will bring a respectable 3.77 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 148:60 K:BB across 162.1 innings into his next appearance, which is tentatively scheduled to come against the Padres.

  • Mets' David Peterson: Battles for ninth win
    By RotoWire

Peterson (9-5) earned the win against the Reds on Friday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Peterson was mostly burned by a three-run fourth inning, but he threw 62 of 91 pitches for strikes and was backed by a strong effort from the Mets' bullpen. While it was a step forward after his season-worst outing Saturday, the southpaw has now allowed at least four earned runs in four of his past six starts. He'll take a 3.72 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 140:59 K:BB across 157.1 innings into a pivotal road matchup with the Phillies next week.

  • Peterson did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 11-8 loss to the Marlins, allowing eight runs on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout over two-plus innings. Peterson was tagged for five runs in the first inning and three more without recording an out in the third, finishing with just 36 strikes on 65 pitches. It marked the southpaw's shortest and roughest outing of the season, and he's now allowed at least four earned runs in three of his past five starts. For the year, he carries a 3.61 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 136:58 K:BB across 152 innings and will try to rebound in a road matchup with the Reds next weekend.
