  • Sears (3-3) notched the win Saturday against Miami, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk in 3.1 innings. He struck out three. Pitching behind Randy Vasquez as a bulk reliever, Sears thrived while scattering one single across 3.1 scoreless frames. Saturday disrupted a string of five consecutive starts for the 30-year-old left-hander, whose role with the Padres appears uncertain going forward. Sears, who sports a 3.86 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 28 innings for San Diego since being recalled from Triple-A El Paso, could maintain some streaming appeal in fantasy leagues if he takes his next scheduled turn in the rotation against the Giants.

  • Sears is no longer listed as the starting pitcher for Saturday's game against Miami. Randy Vasquez will step in as San Diego's starter, but because he hasn't pitched more than three innings since June 27, Sears may still end up working in bulk relief Saturday. The 30-year-old lefty turned in one of his best outings of the season during his last appearance, allowing two runs (one earned) in five innings against Atlanta on Monday.

  • Sears (2-3) took the loss Monday against Atlanta, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks in five innings. He struck out three. Sears was cruising along until Atlanta's two-run fifth inning, though one went unearned due to catcher interference by Freddy Fermin. It was still one of Sears' better outings this year, as the 30-year-old southpaw worked at least five innings while yielding one earned run or zero for the second time through five appearances. Sears is set to wrap up a two-start week this weekend in Miami, where he'll bring a 4.38 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB over 24.2 innings.

  • Sears is scheduled to start Monday's game against Atlanta, Barrett Sallee of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. The left-hander will stick in San Diego's rotation coming out of the All-Star break even though German Marquez and Randy Vasquez have both been reinstated from the injured list. Sears has made four starts for San Diego this season and has a 5.03 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB across 19.2 innings.

  • Padres' JP Sears: Recalled Tuesday
    By RotoWire

The Padres recalled Sears from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. Assuming he isn't need in relief for Tuesday's game against Atlanta, Sears could draw the start for Wednesday's series finale. Lucas Giolito had been lined up to start or work in bulk relief Wednesday, but he was instead placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. The 30-year-old Sears has languished over 14 starts with El Paso this season, pitching to a 7.92 ERA and 1.84 WHIP across 63.2 innings.
