Williams earned the win Thursday in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Rays, giving up two runs on two hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over five innings. The right-hander ran into trouble during the fourth inning when Tampa Bay scored twice on a walk, double and a triple, but he was perfect in each of his other four frames. Williams has been Cleveland's best starter in the playoffs with a 2.30 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 23:5 K:BB across 15.2 innings, and he also fired a scoreless frame out of the bullpen in the ALDS. The 27-year-old tentatively lines up to start Game 7 of the championship series, should it be necessary.

Williams earned the win in Game 5 of the ALDS against the White Sox on Saturday, striking out 12 and allowing one hit and two walks across 5.2 scoreless innings. Williams took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but he was unable to complete that frame after loading the bases via a hit-by-pitch, a single and a walk. Still, it was a dominant performance from the right-hander, who helped the Guardians set an MLB record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game -- both regular season and playoffs -- with 21, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com. Williams made two starts and one relief appearance during the ALDS, punching out 24 with a 1.54 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 11.2 innings. He now tentatively lines up to start Games 3 and 7 of the ALCS against the Rays, but manager Stephen Vogt has already shown he's willing to utilize his starter pitchers flexibly this postseason.

Williams will start Game 5 of the ALDS versus the White Sox on Saturday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Williams finished out the Guardians' Game 4 victory Thursday, throwing 18 pitches in a scoreless inning on what would have typically been his bullpen day. That appearance will not, however, prevent him from starting Saturday's winner-take-all contest. Williams struck out 11 and was charged with two runs over five-plus innings in Game 2, taking a no-decision. He will be opposed by Sean Burke in Game 5.

Williams didn't factor into the decision in Game 2 of the ALDS against the White Sox on Monday. He struck out 11 and gave up two runs on four hits and three walks. After firing a clean top of the first frame, the Guardians handed Williams a 2-0 lead, which he maintained through five innings. The right-hander was pulled at 98 pitches (59 strikes) after surrendering a leadoff single to begin the sixth, and that runner came around to score as Chicago took a 3-2 advantage in the frame. Williams now lines up to start a potential Game 5, but Cleveland will need to win the next two games on the road to get there.

Williams did not factor into decision in the Guardians' 12-9 win over the Royals on Friday. He allowed four runs on five hits and four walks. He struck out four. Williams recorded his shortest start Friday since he lasted just 1.1 innings against the Angels on Aug. 25. The right-hander had trouble against Carter Jensen, giving up three RBI to the catcher, including a two-run homer in the second. Assuming this is his final start this season, Williams has posted a 14-8 record, 3.76 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 248:61 K:BB in 184.1 innings.
