Wong gave the Red Sox an early lead with a two-run home run in the second inning. It was his first of the season and first since September 2024. He was an unlikely DH -- Wednesday marked just the third time this season he filled the role -- but the Red Sox carry three catchers and had Mickey Gasper on the bench if needed. Wong rolled his ankle while attempting to catch a pop fly in the eighth inning of Wednesday's contest and was replaced behind the plate when the Sox took the field in the ninth. X-rays came back negative after the game, per Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald, but the team will wait to see how he feels Thursday before determining his status. Any missed time for Wong would elevate Mickey Gasper into the backup catcher role behind starter Carlos Narvaez.

Wong is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. It's the third straight game on the bench for Wong after he started the previous three contests. The 29-year-old's .885 OPS in 27 plate appearances this year is far superior to Carlos Narvaez's .542 mark, though Narvaez now appears to have the upper hand for playing time again after a strong couple games at the plate.
