  • Royals' Mason Black: Dealt to Kansas City
    By RotoWire

The Royals acquired Black from the Giants on Tuesday in exchange for Logan Martin. Black had been designated for assignment by the Giants last week and will now join the Royals' 40-man roster. The 25-year-old spent most of this season at Triple-A Sacramento, where he held a 5.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP alongside a 114:62 K:BB over 119.1 innings. Black has been used mostly as a starting pitcher to this point in his pro career, though it's not known whether the Royals intend to keep him in that role. The righty has minor-league options remaining.

  • Giants' Mason Black: Dropped from 40-man
    By RotoWire

The Giants designated Black for assignment Thursday. Black spent the majority of the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Sacramento, where he struggled to the tune of a 5.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP alongside a 114:62 K:BB over 119.1 innings. His poor performance will now cause him to lose his place on San Francisco's 40-man roster in favor of Reiver Sanmartin, who was claimed off waivers from the Reds in a corresponding move.

The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. Black ran into some struggles on the mound during his season debut Friday, giving up five runs (three earned) while striking out five batters in four innings out of the bullpen. He'll now return to the minor leagues in favor of Tristan Beck, who will provide the Giants with an additional fresh bullpen arm.

  • Black threw four relief innings in Friday's 11-2 loss to the Athletics, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits -- including two home runs -- while striking out five. Black made his season debut after being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. The right-hander entered the game in the fourth and allowed just one hit through his first two innings. However, things unraveled for the 25-year-old in the next two frames, as the Athletics extended their lead to 11-0 by the end of the seventh. Before joining the big-league club, Black made 14 starts in 15 appearances for Sacramento, posting a 4.75 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 70:42 K:BB across 72 innings.

Black has been in Triple-A all season and owns a 4.75 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP across 72 innings. He's worked almost exclusively as a starter throughout his professional career, but he'll likely be used in long relief while in San Francisco while replacing Carson Seymour in the bullpen.
