• Phillies' Jose Rodriguez: Suspended for one year

  Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Rodriguez has received a one-year suspension for violating the league's gambling policy, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports. The investigation determined that Rodriguez bet a total of $749.09 on baseball during a time he was assigned to the White Sox's Double-A affiliate in Birmingham. He didn't appear in any of the games on which he wagered, and MLB determined the outcomes of the contests weren't compromised in any fashion. Rodriguez was traded to the Phillies in April and has played exclusively at Double-A Reading this season, slashing .265/.329/.422 over 164 plate appearances.

  The White Sox traded Rodriguez to the Phillies on Friday in exchange for cash considerations. Rodriguez was designated for assignment Thursday but will remain on a 40-man roster as he joins the Phillies organization. The 22-year-old infielder reached Triple-A for the first time last season, slashing .253/.270/.379 across 89 plate appearances, and he made his big-league debut in June as a pinch runner, but Philadelphia optioned him to Double-A Reading after acquiring him.

• White Sox's Jose Rodriguez: Ticketed for minors

  The White Sox optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. Rodriguez was called up by the White Sox for two short stints in the majors last season but didn't make his big-league debut. The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the White Sox's better prospects and possesses an intriguing skill set for fantasy with some pop and speed. However, there's no guarantee that he'll play regularly, so fantasy managers shouldn't be rushing out to grab him.
