Jeffers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. Jeffers will retreat to the bench after he had started in five of the Twins' last six games. Alex Jackson will get the nod behind the plate in place of Jeffers, who has gone 5-for-21 with two home runs, two doubles, three walks and six RBI in six contests since returning from the injured list July 10.

Jeffers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Guardians. The backstop took Parker Messick deep in the top of the first inning for his ninth long ball of the season, but it was the only lead the Twins would hold in the game. Jeffers missed nearly two months after undergoing surgery on a fractured hamate bone in May, but he hasn't shown much rust since returning just before the All-Star break, going 5-for-21 (.238) in six games with two doubles and two homers.

Jeffers is absent from the lineup for Monday's game in Cleveland. Jeffers had started each of the last four tilts -- including three at catcher -- so he'll get some rest Monday. Victor Caratini will be behind the dish in the series opener.

After going 1-for-4 with a double and a walk during his return from the injured list Friday, Jeffers will take a seat Saturday as he eases his way back into major-league action. Victor Caratini will start behind the plate and bat sixth.

The Twins activated Jeffers (hand) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Jeffers suffered a fractured left hamate bone May 18 and has missed the last 46 games, but he appears ready to return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Angels. Jeffers was on a tear at the plate before going down, slashing .295/.408/.541 with seven homers, 26 RBI, 26 runs scored, one stolen base and a 23:23 BB:K across 148 trips to the dish.
