  Olson tossed three scoreless innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He allowed one hit and struck out four. Olson's second spring start was better than his first, when he allowed two solo home runs across two innings of work. The righty has been a nice find for the Tigers, as he posted sub-4.00 ERAs in each of his first two seasons with the team, including a 3.53 ERA in 2024 across a career-high 112.1 innings. Olson isn't flashy, but he should be a steady option as Detroit's No. 3 starter this year behind Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty.

  Olson will start Thursday in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Guardians. The Tigers used an opener ahead of Olson in Game 1 of the series, but he will be given a traditional start Thursday as Detroit looks to close out the series. Olson struck out four while allowing just one run over five innings in Game 1.

  Olson did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Orioles, allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out three over three innings. Olson lasted 2.1 innings on 50 pitches in his first start back from a shoulder injury, so he improved upon that by getting through three frames on 58 pitches Saturday. Olson has a 3.49 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 108.1 innings this season. The 25-year-old will wrap up his sophomore season with a home start against the Rays next week.

• Tigers' Reese Olson: Activated ahead of Monday's start

  The Tigers activated Olson (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Olson is set to rejoin the rotation Monday versus the Royals after missing nearly two months with a right shoulder strain. The right-hander went just three innings and threw 45 pitches in his last rehab start, so he will be pretty limited Monday from a workload perspective.

  Olson (shoulder) is trending towards a return early next week in Kansas City, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. McCosky hints than an announcement will come Saturday, and given that Tarik Skubal has been confirmed to start Wednesday, that leaves Monday or Tuesday as potential dates for Olson to make his return to the rotation. He struck out five across three scoreless frames in his rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A Toledo.
