  • Sandoval (elbow) underwent successful internal brace surgery Wednesday to repair the UCL in his left elbow, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Sandoval was diagnosed with a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow after departing early from his start against the Dodgers on June 21. The left-hander is expected to miss at least a full year of action due to the injury, but because he had the internal brace procedure rather than Tommy John surgery, he could be able to shave a couple of months off his recovery timeline and return at some point after the All-Star break in 2025.

  • The Angels transferred Sandoval (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday. Sandoval was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his left elbow Monday and is expected to miss at least a full calendar year. He'll trade places on the 60-day IL with Chase Silseth (elbow), who was activated and optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Sandoval told reporters Monday that he has a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Sandoval was removed in the third inning of Friday's start against the Dodgers, and he was placed on the injured list Saturday. The injury is more severe than what was originally labelled a left elbow strain, and the 27-year-old southpaw will have to undergo surgery. Whether Sandoval undergoes an internal brace procedure or Tommy John has yet to be determined, but he will be out of action for at least a year. Prior to the injury, Sandoval was 2-8 over 16 starts with a 5.08 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 81:35 K:BB over 79.2 innings.

  • Angels' Patrick Sandoval: Put on IL
    By RotoWire

Sandoval was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left elbow strain. Sandoval's move to the IL comes after he was lifted in the third inning of his start Friday against the Dodgers with what was initially labeled left forearm tightness. While he's eligible to return from the IL on July 7, the Angels could opt to play it safe with the 27-year-old and hold him out until the All-Star break. Guillermo Zuniga was called up from Triple-A Salt in a corresponding move, though he'll head to the bullpen and won't be a replacement in the rotation for Sandoval.
