  • Kirby didn't factor into the decision during Monday's 4-3 loss in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series against the Blue Jays, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out three over four innings. Kirby was tagged for a run in the bottom of the first inning after issuing a leadoff walk, followed by a pair of singles. However, he was able to escape the jam without suffering further damage and exited the matchup with a lead. The Mariners would later surrender a two-run lead in the seventh, bringing the right-hander's postseason run to an end. Kirby responded nicely from a disastrous outing in Game 3, when he surrendered eight runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four in four-plus frames.

  • Kirby didn't factor into the decision in Game 5 of the ALDS versus Detroit on Friday, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out six batters over five-plus innings. He did not issue a walk. Kerry Carpenter managed two singles against Kirby, but the rest of Detroit's offense was unable to find any success against the 27-year-old righty through the first five innings. Kirby came back out to start the sixth but was immediately pulled after giving up a leadoff double to Javier Baez, who scored on a home run from Carpenter during the ensuing at-bat. Because the Mariners were able to prevail over the Tigers after a 15-inning marathon, Kirby will have the ability to make at least one more appearance in the postseason -- likely in Game 3 or 4 of the ALCS against Toronto.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Set to start Game 5
    By RotoWire

Kirby will start Game 5 of the ALDS on Friday against Detroit. Both Kirby and Luis Castillo would have been available to pitch on at least regular rest, but the Mariners will opt for Kirby in the elimination game. He threw five innings in Game 1 of the series, allowing two earned runs while striking out eight across five innings.

  • Kirby (10-8) took the loss Friday, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk over five innings as the Mariners fell 3-2 to the Dodgers. He struck out 10. It's the second time in his last three starts that Kirby has fanned double-digit batters, but he didn't get enough run support in a potential World Series preview to extend his winning streak to three. The right-hander has been prone to the occasional meltdown in the second half of the season, getting tagged for seven earned runs twice in his last 12 outings, but he didn't allowed more than three runs in any of the other 10 starts, giving Kirby a 3.82 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 78:16 K:BB over his last 66 innings heading into the postseason.

  • Kirby (10-7) earned the win Saturday at Houston, pitching six scoreless innings while allowing five hits and no walks. He struck out seven. The Seattle right-hander reached double figures in wins for the third consecutive season with this 100-pitch effort. The Astros never came close to sniffing a run against Kirby, who didn't allow an extra-base hit and tallied his 12th quality start of the season. Through 121 total frames, the 27-year-old now sports a 4.24 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 127:28 K:BB. Kirby tentatively projects to make his final start of the season at home against the vaunted Dodgers next weekend.
