The Angels optioned Lugo to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Lugo had been struggling to garner playing time, starting in just one of the Angels' previous seven contests prior to being sent down. He's posted a .707 OPS with four homers, nine RBI and nine runs over 70 plate appearances in the majors this season but has a 0:24 BB:K. Lugo's return to the minors made room for infielder Christian Moore to rejoin the 26-man roster.

Lugo went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a second RBI in Saturday's 17-4 loss to the Athletics. Lugo arguably did more off the bench than most of his teammates did over the full game. However, that hasn't been the norm since his most recent call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake -- Lugo has gone just 3-for-19 with six strikeouts and no walks over nine contests since he was brought up Aug. 24. Overall, the 24-year-old has a .213/.226/.475 slash line with four homers, eight RBI, eight runs scored, two doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over 62 plate appearances in the majors.

The Angels recalled Lugo from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. The 24-year-old will take the roster spot of Nolan Schanuel (wrist), who was placed on the injured list Sunday. Lugo received his first taste of the majors earlier this season and had an .804 OPS in 17 games. He'll likely serve as the Angels' fourth outfielder behind Taylor Ward, Jo Adell and Bryce Teodosio.

Lugo was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Lugo was promoted to the majors June 2 but made only one start since. He'll now head back to the minors, where he should get more regular playing time.

The Angels recalled Lugo from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday. With the Angels placing third baseman Yoan Moncada (knee) going on the injured list in a corresponding move, Lugo is eligible to rejoin the big club ahead of Monday's game in Boston, despite being optioned to Triple-A just four days earlier. Lugo is capable of playing all three outfield spots but will likely find playing time difficult to come by while all of Mike Trout, Jorge Soler, Taylor Ward and Jo Adell are available.
