It was known that Duarte was going to have an operation on his elbow, but the specific type of procedure hadn't been revealed until now. A normal timeline for return for this type of surgery is 14-to-16 months, so Duarte probably won't make it back until the second half of next season, in all likelihood.

Minnesota transferred Duarte (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday. The transaction clears a spot on the Twins' 40-man roster for right-hander Ronny Henriquez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move. Duarte is slated to undergo right elbow surgery in early May and will miss the rest of the season.

Duarte initially landed on the injured list due to a triceps strain, and he will now need to go under the knife. It's unclear whether or not the 27-year-old's procedure will be a Tommy John surgery or some other operation, but it will put an early end to his 2024 campaign nonetheless. He allowed one earned run and struck out three batters through four innings across two appearances.
