  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Resting in finale

Guerrero is not in Sunday's lineup against the Rays.

Guerrero, who was once again near the top of the MLB leaderboard in games played this year (156), will get a breather in advance of the postseason. Cavan Biggio picks up the start at first base, batting fifth.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Out of lineup Sunday

Mountcastle is not in Sunday's lineup against the Red Sox.

Adley Rutschman is starting at designated hitter while Ryan O'Hearn mans first base. Mountcastle hit .231 with zero home runs in 13 games in September.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

    Rays' Yandy Diaz: Sitting Saturday

Diaz isn't in the Rays' lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After going 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBI in his return from a hamstring injury Friday, Diaz will get a breather for the Rays' penultimate game of the season. Isaac Paredes will shift to first base with Curtis Mead at second base, Junior Caminero at third and Taylor Walls starting at shortstop.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Homers in return

Diaz went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run Friday against the Blue Jays.

Diaz had been sidelined after missing two games caused by hamstring tightness. According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Diaz is still feeling discomfort and did state some concern about running the bases. With the Rays locked into the playoffs, the team could opt to take it easy with its primary leadoff hitter across the final two games of the regular season.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Crosses plate three times in win

Guerrero went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles and three runs scored in Friday's 11-4 win over the Rays.

The 24-year-old slugger continues a late-season surge that has helped push the Jays to the verge of the playoffs -- they need one more win, or a Mariners loss, to lock up a wild-card spot. Over his last 12 games, Guerrero is slashing .302/.423/.628 with two doubles, four homers, eight RBI and 10 runs.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Goes deep again Friday

Torkelson went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Guardians.

Torkelson went deep for the second straight game and seventh time this month, bringing his season total to 31 home runs. The 24-year-old has established himself as a good source of power in his second MLB campaign, and he's managed to increase his batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage from his 2022 rookie season. Torkelson should continue to trend upward in 2024.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Strikeouts piling up

Dalbec went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Friday's 3-0 win over Baltimore.

Dalbec continues to fill a spot in the lineup at first base with Triston Casas (shoulder) done for the season. Dalbec hit safely in the first five games after being called up from Triple-A Worcester, but he's gone the other the way since. The corner infielder is 1-for-16 with 10 strikeouts over his last five contests.

  • Nick Loftin 1B | KC

Royals' Nick Loftin: Logs second steal

Loftin went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 12-5 win over the Yankees.

Loftin had started to skid a bit, going 2-for-14 over his previous five games before turning things around Friday. The infielder has logged two steals over his first 19 contests in the majors after posting seven steals in 88 minor-league games this season. His best attribute so far has been steady hitting -- he's batting .323 with an .803 OPS, no home runs, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored, five doubles and a triple over 68 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Ty France: Opens scoring with homer

France went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-0 win over the Rangers.

After recently snapping a 36-game homer drought, France has gone deep twice in his last four contests. The first baseman's blast Friday opened the scoring in the third inning. He's at 12 homers, 58 RBI, 79 runs scored, one stolen base, 32 doubles and a .250/.336/.367 slash line through 156 games this season.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Sitting versus lefty

Kirilloff is absent from the lineup Friday at Colorado.

Donovan Solano will play first base and bat leadoff as the Twins take on Rockies left-hander Ty Blach. Kirilloff, a left-handed hitter, has slashed just .125/.232/.250 in 56 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.
