Rays' Yandy Diaz: Rests in series finale

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Tampa Bay will go with Joey Wendle and Mike Brosseau as its corner infielders while Diaz takes a seat in the series finale. Diaz had started each of the past seven games, going 5-for-23 while drawing six walks.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Royals' Carlos Santana: Scores three runs

Santana went 1-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored in Wednesday's 9-6 win over the Pirates.

Santana walked and scored on a Jorge Soler double in the first inning. In the fourth, Santana got aboard with a single and scored on a Soler single to extend the Royals' lead to 6-0. Santana's third run came in the sixth inning after he reached on an error. The first baseman has five home runs, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored, a stolen base and a .244/.364/.476 slash line through 23 games.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rangers' Nate Lowe: Reaches base three times

Lowe went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI on Wednesday against the Angels.

Lowe drove in a run in the first inning on an infield hit. That extended his hitting streak to five games, and his knock later in the contest gave him three multi-hit efforts in his last six starts. Lowe has thrived with everyday playing time to this point, hitting .280/.368/.505 with six home runs, 11 runs scored and 22 RBI across 106 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Recall depends on Springer

Tellez is expected to be recalled whenever George Springer (quadriceps) is able to play the outfield regularly, Gregor Chisholm of the Toronto Star reports.

Tellez was sent to the alternate site Wednesday because Springer is only able to serve as the designated hitter at the moment, leaving Tellez with nowhere to play. Chisholm says Springer's move to full-time outfield work isn't imminent, so we probably won't see Tellez back in the majors until early-to-mid May.

  • Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Demoted to alternate site

Tellez was optioned to the Blue Jays' alternate training site Wednesday.

Even with Tellez hitting .183 with one home run and a 15:2 K:BB in 60 at-bats, this is a bit of a surprise move. With George Springer limited to designated-hitter duties, the Jays are opting to keep Jonathan Davis on the active roster in the short term to maintain outfield depth.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Keeps hitting in loss

Olson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in a loss to the Rays on Tuesday.

Olson had experienced a rare, brief downturn at the plate over the last two games while going hitless in eight at-bats with four strikeouts. However, the slugging first baseman heated right back up Tuesday, racking up his fourth multi-hit effort in his last six games, a stretch that includes four extra-base hits (two doubles, two home runs).

  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT

Royals' Ryan O'Hearn: Sitting out in Pittsburgh

O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh.

Since the Royals don't have the designated hitter available in Pittsburgh, O'Hearn will remained sidelined for the second straight day. Kansas City will resume American League play Friday in Minnesota, so O'Hearn should soon reclaim a regular spot in the lineup versus right-handed pitching.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Royals' Carlos Santana: Knocks in lone run

Santana went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Pirates.

Santana's infield single in the third inning plated shortstop Nicky Lopez for the Royals' lone run. The 35-year-old Santana continues to get involved in run production -- he has 19 RBI in 22 games this season. The first baseman had all of 30 RBI in 60 games last year. In 2021, he's added five home runs, 10 runs scored, one stolen base and a .244/.362/.487 slash line across 94 plate appearances.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Slugs first homer

Dalbec went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Mets.

His third-inning blast off David Peterson got the Red Sox on the board and was Dalbec's first homer of the season. The 25-year-old is starting to find his rhythm at the plate, going 9-for-27 (.333) over his last nine games with a double and a triple in addition to Tuesday's long ball.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Blasts three homers

Guerrero went 3-for-4 with three home runs and seven total RBI during Tuesday's win over the Nationals.

Guerrero did something his father never accomplished during his stellar 16-year career and had arguably the best game of his young career. He belted a grand slam in the third inning and a solo homer in the fifth before capping things off with a two-run shot in the seventh -- the first two were off Max Scherzer. Guerrero also became the fourth player in MLB history to smash three grand slams before turning 23 years old, joining a list that also includes Ozzie Albies, Giancarlo Stanton and Albert Pujols, and he is also the youngest to record three homers and seven RBI in a single game since 1901.
