Abreu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's 9-7 win over the Mariners.

Abreu opened the scoring with his homer off Yusei Kikuchi in the first inning. The first baseman would later score on Yoan Moncada's three-run double in the fourth. Abreu is batting .400 (10-for-25) over his last eight games, adding five homers, 12 RBI and eight runs scored in that span. Calhoun went deep twice for the first time this season, launching a two-run homer in the third inning followed by a solo shot in the eighth. The long balls gave the 31-year-old outfielder a career-high 31 home runs, and he is batting .234/.326/.479 on the year.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Twins' C.J. Cron: Riding pine Friday

Cron isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Indians.

Cron is situated on the bench for the fourth consecutive contest, giving Willians Astudillo another chance to start at first base and hit eighth.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Returns from injury

Gurriel (hamstring) is back in the lineup Friday against the Royals, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gurriel will wind up missing a week with a minor hamstring injury. Initial reports expected him back Tuesday or Wednesday, but he ended up needing a few more days to recover. He'll bat fifth and play first base in his return to the lineup.

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Runs bases Thursday

Gurriel (hamstring) ran through a set of baserunning scenarios Thursday, David Barron of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gurriel is ramping up for a potential return to the starting lineup Friday against Kansas City. "I would expect him to recover fine from (Thursday's work)," said manager AJ Hinch. "We needed to see that, simulating things like stopping abruptly coming around third, turning a base hit into a double. He was running hard, and if he responds well to the downtime, I would expect him to be back in the lineup (Friday)." Gurriel has been sidelined since last Friday as Aledmys Diaz has filled in for the injured first baseman.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Slugs 32nd homer

Olson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's victory over Houston.

Olson took Justin Verlander deep in the third inning, launching a two-run shot to right field to stake Oakland to a three-run lead. Despite missing all of April with a broken bone in his right hand, the 25-year-old is now tied for the team lead with 32 homers and 81 RBI while slashing .274/.358/.557 in 481 plate appearances this season.

Yankees' Luke Voit: Smashes 20th homer

Voit went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Tigers.

Voit delivered a two-run blast over the fence in center during the first inning, and he drove in another run in the eighth with a single to right field. This marks the 28-year-old's first long ball since July 22 against Minnesota, though it's worth noting that he missed 29 games in July and August due to a sports hernia. Voit is hitting .279 with 20 homers and 58 RBI over 105 games this season.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Out as expected

Gurriel (hamstring) is not in the lineup Thursday against the Athletics, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

As expected, Gurriel will miss a sixth straight game as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury he picked up last week. According to Jake Kaplan of The Athletic, he's expected to rejoin the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Royals. In the meantime, Aledmys Diaz is once again starting at first base in his place Wednesday.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Timely hitting continues

Olson went 1-for-4 with a two-run double and a run in a win over the Astros on Wednesday.

Olson has displayed a welcome penchant for timely hitting in September, with Wednesday representing his third multi-RBI game over the last five. The slugger has gotten it done with the help of eight extra-base hits (four doubles, four home runs), and he's been solid all season with men on base. Olson is now just five RBI from equaling the career-best 84 he tallied last season, and he's slashing .297/.391/.605 with 23 extra-base hits across 215 plate appearances with teammates on the basepaths this season.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Swats 29th homer

Calhoun went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to Cleveland on Wednesday.

Calhoun brought the Angels to within a run with a 411-foot shot to center field in the eighth inning, but it proved to be the final tally of the game for either team. The round tripper was Calhoun's first since Aug. 23 and was only his third hit in 30 at-bats in September. The 31-year-old is slashing .231/.325/.467 with 29 homers and 68 RBI in 570 plate appearances this season.
