  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rays' C.J. Cron: Launches another homer Wednesday

Cron went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored in a win over the Royals on Wednesday. He was also hit by a pitch.

Cron's torrid stretch continued Wednesday, one that's now seen him homer in three of the past five games -- including two straight -- while also reaching safely in 22 consecutive contests overall. The 28-year-old is hitting an impressive .327 in May, boosting his season average 20 points to .289 during the month.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rays' C.J. Cron: Goes yard in win

Cron went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and a pair of strikeouts in Tuesday's win over the Royals.

Cron's homer got the Rays on the board in the first inning, as he extended his hitting streak to eight -- including four straight with an extra-base hit. The 28-year-old's current career-high in the home run department is 16, which he's reached in each of the last three seasons. He's already gone deep nine times in just 39 games this year to go along with a .284/.331/.503 slash line.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yulieski Gurriel: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Gurriel is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Gurriel will head to the bench with right-hander Jaime Barria on the mound for the Angels on Tuesday. Marwin Gonzalez will step in at first base for the Astros with Derek Fisher getting the start in left field.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: Third straight multi-hit effort Monday

Guerrero went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for Double-A New Hampshire in its 10-5 win over Hartford on Monday.

Guerrero continues to build momentum for a promotion to the big club, with Monday's performance marking his third consecutive multi-hit effort. His average is now up to .405 for the season, which represents the second-best mark in the minors among players with at least 100 plate appearances. The 19-year-old, who has as many walks (13) as strikeouts this season, has melded his impressive contact and plate discipline with elite power production, as 20 of his 51 hits have gone for extra bases.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Goes deep in Monday's win

Olson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs in a win over the Red Sox on Monday.

Olson's fifth homer of the season extended the Athletics' lead to 5-3 in the sixth inning and served as his first round tripper since May 4. The 24-year-old is considerably off the torrid long-ball pace he established in his spectacular 2017 rookie campaign, but he's actually making hard contact at a career-best 51.1 percent rate. However, a near-four-point bump in strikeout rate (27.8 percent to 31.3 percent) over last season is certainly playing a part in his reduced output.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Hits safely in fourth straight

Abreu went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Cubs.

Abreu's nascent hitting streak reached four games Saturday. During that run, he's reached base nine times (seven hits, two walks) in 17 plate appearances with three extra-base hits and four RBI. It's indicative of the production potential in his bat, but the White Sox don't have much surrounding Abreu, particularly at this time with Yoan Moncada (hamstring) unavailable. That means opposing pitchers can pitch around him to get to less accomplished hitters. After he hit six home runs over the first 19 games, Abreu has gone yard just once over the last 16.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rays' C.J. Cron: Blasts eighth homer in second game Saturday

Cron went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in a 10-3 win during the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

The blast was his eighth of the season, and Cron has now boosted his slash line to .282/.333/.486 after racking up four straight multi-hit performances, including both ends of Saturday's twin bill.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Returns to lineup Friday

Calhoun returned to the lineup Friday, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in a loss to the Twins.

Calhoun returned from what appeared to be a four-game mental break after getting off to a rough start this year (.172/.197/.213). The veteran outfielder's sudden decline is due in large part to his impatient approach at the plate (0.12 BB/K). The only saving grace -- for his batting average at least -- is that his .225 BABIP is unusually unlucky. Whether or not we see Calhoun's name on the lineup card Saturday will go a long way in telling whether this was truly a scheduled break, or if the longtime starter has lost out on his starting job to Chris Young.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Healthy at Double-A

Mountcastle (hand) was activated from the disabled list at Double-A Bowie and went 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI Thursday against Hartford.

He suffered a broken hand midway through spring training, and this was his first game back. Mountcastle isn't a great defender anywhere on the diamond (he played third base in this one), but he has the potential to hit for average and for power, which would allow his bat to profile at third base or in left field. He is on pace to reach the majors in early 2019.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rays' C.J. Cron: Continues thriving at plate

Cron went 2-for-4 with a run in a loss to the Braves on Wednesday.

Cron continues to serve as one of the Rays' steadiest sources of offense, as factoring in Wednesday's production, he's now reached base safely in 15 straight games. The 28-year-old has compiled 12 extra-base hits (five doubles, seven home runs) overall, and his current .201 ISO represents a career high.
