Angels' Kole Calhoun: Hits two-run shot Wednesday

Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a win over the A's on Wednesday.

Calhoun seemed to hit a wall in July and August, but has really picked up the pace to close out the season, as he is slugging .591 in his last 88 at-bats. The fact that he has yet to reach the 20-homer mark is likely disheartening for owners, but he increased his walk rate by more than three percent from 2015, and should remain a solid mid-round option on 2017 draft boards.

Indians' Carlos Santana: Out of Thursday's lineup

Santana is out of Thursday's lineup against the Tigers, the Akron Beacon Journal's Ryan Lewis reports.

There is a solid chance that Thursday's game will be rained out, but Santana will get the day off either way. If the game does get played, Jesus Aguilar will start at first base and hit seventh while Mike Napoli gets the nod at DH in the cleanup spot.

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Returns to lineup Friday

Calhoun (personal) is starting in right field and hitting second Friday against the Astros.

He missed three games to be with his family after the birth of his child, but appeared as a pinch hitter Thursday, so his return Friday was expected. Calhoun should finish out the season as the Angels' starting right fielder.

Indians' Carlos Santana: Churns out four-RBI effort Thursday

Santana went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and an RBI double in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Royals.

Santana's been enjoying the diluted pitching of September baseball, as he's having his best month, posting a .310/.451/.634 line with six homers and 17 RBI over 20 games. That's about as much average as you'll ever see him hit for, as Santana tends to hover in the .250 range (or worse), but he's still been plenty productive for fantasy owners. The 30-year-old has a career-high 34 homers already, and he's just two short of his career-high 85 RBI and one short of his career-high 84 runs.

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Rejoins team Thursday

Calhoun (personal) rejoined the Angels on Thursday following a leave of absence to be with his newborn child. He's not in the starting lineup.

He may be available to pinch hit Thursday, but this bodes well for his chances of returning to starting duty Friday. Fantasy players can expect to slide him back in.

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Absent from Friday's lineup

Calhoun (personal) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.

It's his fourth straight day off following the birth of his child. With 40-man September rosters, the Halos have not needed to give him paternity list designation. He's day-to-day heading into Friday action, with Rafael Ortega continuing to occupy right field in Calhoun's stead.

  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Yankees' Donovan Solano: Hits first homer of year

Solano went 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs, and two RBI in the Yankees' 14-4 win over the Rays.

It was Solano's third game and his first home run of the year, as he joined Gary Sanchez and the rest of a Yankees lineup that put up 17 hits on the Rays. Solano spent parts of four seasons with the Marlins before heading to New York, and never hit more than three home runs despite garnering 300+ at-bats twice.

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Out again Wednesday

Calhoun (personal) remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers.

Calhoun has been away from the team since Monday afternoon following the birth of his child, and Wednesday will mark his third straight absence from the lineup. With rosters expanded, the Angels don't need to worry about the paternity list designation, so Calhoun should be considered day-to-day in advance of Thursday's series opener against Houston.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yulieski Gurriel: Hitless Tuesday in five at-bats

Gurriel went hitless in five at-bats during Tuesday's 2-1 win at Oakland.

Gurriel is just 3-for-22 (.136) over his last five games, but he's only fanned twice and has four RBI over that span. The 32-year-old rookie has been hitting out of the two-hole in the absence of Alex Bregman (hamstring).

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Indians' Carlos Santana: Belts 33rd homer Tuesday

Santana went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in a 2-1 win over the Royals on Tuesday.

Santana's blast came in the third inning and was the only run the Indians mustered off Kansas City starter Edinson Volquez. It was Santana's 33rd homer of the year, easily a career-best. While hitting just .246, Santana's 92 walks are third in the AL and drive his .355 OBP, a mark respectable enough to bat leadoff for the Indians despite his lack of speed.
