Nationals' Luke Voit: Ends rough spell at plate

Voit went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 8-2 loss to Atlanta.

Even though the Nationals ended up squandering an early 2-0 lead, Voit at least ended a prolonged slump at the plate in emphatic fashion. Over his prior seven contests, Voit went just 2-for-29 with a whopping 16 strikeouts. Voit has produced an underwhelming .243/.316/.405 slash line since joining the Nationals at the trade deadline, but he'll still be locked into a full-time role over the final week of the season. He's serving as Washington's designated hitter and cleanup batter Wednesday.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Launches 40th homer

Alonso went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 6-4 loss to the Marlins.

He got the Mets on the board by taking Pablo Lopez deep in the fourth inning, but the Mets were already in a 4-0 hole at that point. Alonso has homered in three straight games and five of the last seven, driving in an incredible 16 runs during that power surge. In addition to now holding the franchise's single-season record for RBI at 131, the 27-year-old has recorded his second career campaign with at least 40 home runs.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Two hits, two RBI in win

Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Brewers.

Goldschmidt drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first frame before ripping an RBI single off Trevor Gott in the top of the fifth and stealing second base. He later added a double in the seventh inning, his 41st two-bagger of the year. Goldschmidt came into Tuesday's contest in a 4-for-27 cold spell over his previous seven games, but he still owns a .318 average with 35 homers, 114 RBI, 103 runs and seven stolen bases over 146 games in 2022.

  • Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Homers in loss

Tellez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Tellez took Miles Mikolas deep for a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth frame, scoring the first run for the Brewers. The homer was his 34th of the year and second in three games. The first baseman has struggled to produce a consistent batting average, but he has compiled six home runs, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored over his last 14 games.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Suffers fractured finger

Cooper was diagnosed with a fractured left pinky finger after he exited Tuesday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Cooper went 1-for-2 before he was hit by a pitch on the left hand during the fifth inning, and he was promptly replaced by a pinch runner. The injury should bring an end to the 31-year-old's 2022 campaign with just over a week left in the regular season. He played in 119 games and posted a .261/.337/.415 slash line with nine home runs, 33 doubles, 50 RBI and 37 runs.

  • Padres' Brandon Dixon: Contract selected by San Diego

Dixon had his contract selected by the Padres on Tuesday.

Dixon joined the Friars on a minor-league deal in March and will join the big-league club with nine games left in the regular season. Cubs' Jared Young: Optioned to Triple-A

Young was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

After getting called up earlier this month, Young will return to the minors as Willson Contreras (ankle) and Seiya Suzuki (paternity) return to the active roster. Young went 5-for-19 at the plate and put up a respectable .732 OPS during his short time in Chicago.
