  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Padres' Matt Beaty: Restarts rehab assignment

Beaty (shoulder) resumed his rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday and has gone 2-for-11 with a walk and two runs while playing in games four of the past five days.

Beaty, who has been on the Padres' injured list since early May with a left shoulder impingement, is in the midst of his third separate rehab assignment following a recent two-and-a-half-week hiatus. Whenever he's finally activated from the 60-day IL, Beaty will likely handle a limited role off San Diego's bench.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Racks up three hits Sunday

Freeman went 3-for-5 with an RBI double in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Rockies.

Freeman has notched nine multi-hit efforts in his last 17 games, including four contests with three or more knocks. His double Sunday provided the Dodgers with an insurance run in the seventh inning. The star first baseman is up to a .325/.402/.538 slash line with 15 home runs, 66 RBI, 70 runs scored, nine stolen bases, 35 doubles and two triples in 101 contests.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Heads to bench

Flores is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Flores' move to the bench ends a stretch of 12 consecutive starts for the 30-year-old. Tommy La Stella will step in at second base in place of Flores, who should continue to have a regular spot in the middle infield while both Thairo Estrada (concussion) and Brandon Crawford (knee) are on the injured list.

  • Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL

Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Sent to minors

The Cubs optioned Rivas to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

He'll surrender his spot on the 26-man active roster to utility man Zach McKinstry, whom the Cubs acquired from the Dodgers on Saturday. Rivas had been serving as the Cubs' primary starting first baseman against right-handed pitching since the middle of June, but he's turned in an unremarkable .232/.313/.316 slash line across 201 plate appearances with the big club. His demotion should pave the way for Frank Schwindel to see most of the reps at the position.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Steps out of lineup Sunday

Cron is not in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Dodgers, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Cron started 13 straight games since missing two contests with a wrist injury in mid-July, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale. Connor Joe will shift to first base while Sam Hilliard enters the lineup and plays the outfield.

  • Darick Hall 1B | PIT

Phillies' Darick Hall: Out of Sunday's lineup

Hall is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Hall is 3-for-21 over his past six contests and will take a seat Sunday for the second time in Philadelphia's last three games. Kyle Schwarber will serve as the designated hitter while Matt Vierling, Odubel Herrera and Nick Castellanos start in the outfield.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Homers in second straight

Votto went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in an 8-2 victory over the Orioles on Saturday.

Votto went deep for the second game in a row to raise his home-run total to 10 on the year. The veteran first baseman has now posted double-digit home runs in every season since 2015. Votto got off to a miserable start in 2022, and his season-long numbers represent a major drop-off from his impressive 36 home-run season in 2021, when he slashed .266/.375/.563.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Crushes another homer

Olson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Olson opened the scoring with a two-out homer in the first inning. The first baseman had been rather unlucky in the power department early in the season, but he's turned it around in July with nine homers through 25 games this month. For the season, he has 21 long balls, 67 RBI, 48 runs scored, 35 doubles and a .253/.340/.503 slash line through 102 contests.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Out of Saturday's lineup

Cronenworth is not in Saturday's lineup against the Twins.

Ha-Seong Kim and CJ Abrams will man the middle infield. Cronenworth is hitting .190 with two home runs and zero steals in 84 at-bats this month.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Beginning rehab assignment

Cooper (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Jupiter on Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cooper's recent move to the injured was backdated to Sunday, so he's eligible to rejoin the Marlins as early as Aug. 3. The 31-year-old seems to be trending toward a fairly minimal absence since he's already been cleared to return to game action.
