  • Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL

Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Drives in two Wednesday

Rivas went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Padres.

Rivas got off to a scorching hot start to the season, though he had cooled down some to begin May. Before Wednesday's contest, the 25-year-old was batting just .118 this month with nine strikeouts in seven games. Rivas still seems to be on the strong side of a first-base platoon with Frank Schwindel, but the former could lose playing time if he cools down too much.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Smacks grand slam

Hoskins went 2-for-4 with a grand slam Wednesday against the Mariners.

Hoskins took Logan Gilbert yard in the fourth frame to record his fifth homer of the season. He powered the Phillies' offense throughout their three-game set against the Mariners, slugging a home run in each contest while tallying seven RBI. For the season, Hoskins is now hitting .222/.309/.444 across 123 plate appearances.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Padres' Luke Voit: Launches first two homers in win

Voit went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs and three runs in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.

The first baseman took Keegan Thompson deep in the second inning and then launched another homer off Mychal Givens in the seventh frame. Voit finally notched his first round trippers of the season Wednesday. The 31-year-old has struggled to a .184 batting average over 49 at-bats to open the season. Voit will look to springboard this effort into a hot stretch in the coming weeks.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Three hits in win

Wade went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk in Wednesday's win over the Rockies.

Wade notched three singles in the contest, most notably driving in Luis Gonzalez with a timely knock in the eighth. He now has four hits in 12 at-bats since being activated off the injured list May 6, adding a homer and five RBI over that stretch. Wade looks to be picking up where he left off in 2021.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Not starting Wednesday

Flores (back) isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Flores will remain out of the lineup for a second straight day after being scratched with lower-back tightness Tuesday, but he's feeling better and will likely be available off the bench in Wednesday's series finale against Colorado, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Joc Pederson will serve as the designated hitter while Luis Gonzalez starts in left field.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Delivers three-hit performance

Cronenworth went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Cubs.

The three hits were a new season-high total for Cronenworth, who had been hitting just .172 in May before Tuesday's eruption at the dish. He'll be back in the lineup Wednesday for the series finale with Chicago, manning second base and batting leadoff.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Likely to require rehab assignment

Votto (illness) will likely require a rehab assignment before joining the Reds, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Votto has been on the COVID-19 injured list since May 3, and manager David Bell said Wednesday that the 38-year-old isn't yet back with the team. Bell hinted at the possibility of Votto missing the team's road trip to Toronto next weekend, so it's possible he'll be unavailable until sometime in late May. Colin Moran should continue to see most of the playing time at first base while Votto is sidelined.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Scratched with back tightness

Flores was scratched from the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies due to lower-back tightness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Flores was penciled in to make his fourth straight start at third base Tuesday, but he's instead out of the lineup with the back issue. He should be considered day-to-day for now, while Mauricio Dubon will take Flores' place at the hot corner.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Padres' Luke Voit: Returns from injured list

Voit (biceps) was activated off the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

The 31-year-old landed on the shelf April 23 with a biceps tendon injury and will rejoin the big-league roster after a five-game rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso. Voit went 0-for-18 with 12 strikeouts during the rehab stint, which isn't a great sign given his .143/.315/.167 slash line and 31.5 percent strikeout rate prior to the injury. The veteran slugger may need to get on track quickly in order to maintain a regular spot in San Diego's lineup.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Out against lefty

Smith is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

The lefty-hitting Smith will cede designated-hitter duties to the righty-hitting J.D. Davis, who receives the starting nod with southpaw Patrick Corbin on the hill for Washington.
